tranny oil question
Hey do I really need to buy the tranny oil for my 2000 civic ex manual at the honda dealers because they said that "tranny oil is only to be bought at the dealers"? by the way my 2nd gear kinda grinds when you give gas and stick it in 2nd so changing the oil will help it for a while..............huh?
To tell you the truth I wanna say no because i just finish my swap and i got some gear stuff at autozone.... Ill see if i can find the bottle it came in... by the way i dig your hatch for sure.

well, honda does say and recommend there MTF. i seen people throw in motor oil, and i have also seen their syncoros not last long. i've only put hondas MTF in my tranny, works great.
as for your grinding, it might help, but if your sync's are gone, then the only remody is to have them replaced.

exactly what i am saying. your syncoros are worn. you can go ahead and change the MTF, chances are it's probably never been changed. if it continues to grind the only way to fix it is to replace them.

you are not understanding the words that i am typing!
sorry if i am not telling you what you want to hear, but there is no magical MTF, sorry there isn't!
so go ahead and change the MTF, it's going to help, but, and i do mean but, if it continues to grind then there is no fluid that is going to correct that. replacing the synros is the only way (preparing you for the wosre here).
for example, i once had a girlfriend who wanted to learn how to drive stick. so after i taught her
, we jumped into my car for a crash coarse. she screwed up my gears so bad that there was no way a MTF could cure it. when i would drive at low rpms, the grind was minimal to none. once i change at higher rpms or down shifted the grinding would occur.
so see, all i am doing is preparing you for the worse. go ahead and changed the fluid. i would recommend Honda's MTF. your need 3qts, but you are only going to use 2.5. make sure you follow the proper procedures to empting and filling the tranny and go have some fun!

dude i have the same thing wrong with my tranny and i just bought a tranny!.....theres eaither one of two things wrong, your syncs are bad, or ur clutch is not engageing in high rpms. eaither way you will grind until you replace em. luckly for me i found a way to revent it grinding in high rpms, i just have to kinda stall when shifting insted of slamming second and spinning the tires.
