Resonator vs adding another inline muffler
Currently I am running a 3" turbo back, 30" resonator (louvered core), magnaflow muffler.
My car is still droning to much and it seems like the resonator did almost nothing. I'm thinking about just taking that out and doing this...I bought another 4x9 magnaflow 18" body muffler to add to my system. I would have to remove the resonator

I have the same problem with mine, its just to loud for long highway runs. Iwas thinking about putting in a second muffler but the only place it will fit is in the stock cat location. I was also thinking about putting in a different muffler, like a world sport from Apexi. I think they have an S bend inside the muffler so it will decrease power but i can deal with it if it makes my drive less annoying....
it should, i have a resonator down there that is 4" round. this is 4" wide so shouldn't be too bad. Pretty sure I have at least 9" across. This drone is making me lose my hearing. I was thinking about the moroso spiral flow but it might block off my flow.
I'm planning on using an e-cutout (of my own design) right before the gas tank. It will be 3" turbo-back with 2 resonators, and will continue past the e-cutout with OEM piping/muffler. It should be quiet as library on a saturday night. I don't mind the noise short-term, I just can't stand it on a freeway. Plus cops here have NOTHING better to do besides write 'modified exhaust' tickets.
You could do the same, except with a normal baffled muffler. I think apexi makes a 3" chambered muffler, so either way you would have options to quiet it down.

the firewall and shock towers are the most effective places to apply sound deadening. try those areas before you give up on it.

I have the exact same issue. I debated going with a 3" 'turbo' muffler from Summit (the one with holes in it) but I haven't done it yet.
Summit also sells this "DNA" resonator that has a spiral of wedges inside

I run a 3in exhaust with a carsound cat, 18 in resonator and a modified apexi world sport 3in muffler my car sounds almost like stock its only loud when getting on it. I lost probably 20-30hp but its quiet.

i was thinking about adding a moroso spiral flow muffler but didn't want to restrict my exhaust too much. I will be adding this muffler sometime next week and will let you all know how it sounds
strip your interior, and sound deaden all the metal before re installing everything.
Than turn up the boos a pound or less and it will make up for the added weight.

ANYONE EVER THOUGHT OF RUNING A 3 INCH DP oops caps lock.. to a e-cutout and the stock muffler and pipe form there back..
then splice into the vtec wire to use the 12v signal to enguage vtec and the e-cutout ...
so quiet on part throttle and when u wanna go just hit the gas vtec pops e-cutout opens and the turbo spools its *** off...
now that i think about it the e-cutout might be too slow.. , but i think you could make one with a quicker servo that would work.. ever been on an assembly line those lil servos can be blindingly fast.. discuss..

That would be pretty annoying to run open downpipe every time I wanted to give it some gas getting onto a freeway or whatever. I think its a great idea, but a on/off switch is much more convenient, controllable, and simple. IMO
well hell between the wire put in a on off toggle switch... if u have grandma in the car...
but really if u put it @ 90% tps u can still get on the freeway without full throttle most street setups the turbo spools at half throttle so you would have plenty enough power..
and that brings me to this.. open dp and stock exhaust is gonna be way diff in how much fuel is needed..
so tune the car fully stock exhaust then tune it with open dp make 2 maps when the n02 contorls cut on you can make it goto the secondary open dp map to be really efficient..
that way if u hit boost in part throttle to 80% tps it wont be rich as *****
but really if u put it @ 90% tps u can still get on the freeway without full throttle most street setups the turbo spools at half throttle so you would have plenty enough power..

i havent used one personally just the manual cutout..
ive heard people say they work great some peolpe say they always break..
im sure if u get a good quaility one im sure it wont be cheap.. it will keep on working. like i said those industrial servos on assembly lines go on and off 100's of thousands of times a day only thing we have to do it put them back in sync after a week or so since they tend to slowly get out of sync..
