1997 ACCORD SE AUTO TRANSMISSION PROBLEM URGENT!!!
So here is whats going on. I was one day just driving the car and all of a sudden it lost power and made the car come to a stop. The car didnt turn off but no matter what gear you would put it in, it would go anywhere. The RPM would just go up as you accelerate but the car didnt go anywhere. I tried all the gears and nothing. Then I turned the car off and turn it back on and tried it again and nothing. So I tried to put it in "P" and it made a loud grinding type noise. So I backed off and tried it again and again it made a grinding noise. Almost like the flywheel when you try to start the car when its already on. So I turn it off in "R" and put it back on "P" with the car off. Yesterday I went and bought another transmission and put it on thinking this was the problem. Once it was done, it still does the same thing. The car starts, I put it in any gear and it goes nowhere. I try to put it back in park to turn it off and it makes this grinding noise so I cant put it in park to turn it off. So now I have a new transmission that does the same thing. WHAT THE HECK IS THE PROBLEM. Could it be the computer TCM for the transmission? Maybe it just doesnt know its in gear. Please help ASAP as this is my work car and I have no other way to get around.
Well if you replaced the whole transmission and it's still doing that, I would say that the TCM is a good option. Did you check the ATF level and make sure it's full?
I put enough transmission oil in. Thats not an issue and still doesnt explain the grinding noise when I put it in "P". Has anyone has this happen to them?
Did you replace the solenoids on the transmission? Do you get any trouble codes (like d4 light blinking)?

well sounds like you have a hydralic problem in your transmission...I would take it to a transmission specialist to see whats going on with it..g/l tho man

Solenoids or hydraulics wouldnt be the problem. Especially since it does the same thing on both transmissions. I thought it was the computer. So I changed that and still same thing. Has anyone experienced this before. Im gonna take the axles off and check for excessive wear and tear on the gears that go in the tranny, but I doubt this is the problem since I didnt see anything special when I changed the transmission. I guess a closer look will help. But again, does anyone have any ideas????
Have you checked the selector lever switch for continuity where it's supposed to be when in a certain gear? Is the selector cable properly adjusted?
Did a quarter fall down in your gear shift and is shorting out the switch?

I tried changing the whole shiftter and sensor and no thats not it. I tried another one already and thats not it. As for the cable, how would it possible dis-adjust itself. There is no way that would change its current factory set length.
It sounds like you've tried all of the most likely causes. Before I took the tranny off again, I would atleast call or visit the dealer and see if one of the techs can give some advice.
I went ahead and took off the replacement transmission. Called the place where I got it from and they replaced it with another one. Finished installing it yesterday again. Turn the car on and again. It does the same exact thing. What the hell is wrong with it. Now I think its something electrical as it cant be the transmission or any of the sensors in the transmission. It cant be 3 transmissions have the same problem. It cant be the ECU since I replaced it and still does the same thing. It cant be the shifter since I replaced it and it does the same thing. So now im stuck. I dont know what the hell is the problem with this. CAN ANYONE HELP OR GIVE ADVICE!
Someone slap me please. I checked the old transmission to see if maybe I could see a problem. Sure enough, on the drivers side axle inlet, there is a piece of the axle that had broken off in there. So lift up the car. Pull the axle out, and there it is. A piece had broken off inside the old transmission. And this is a fairly new axle. Less than 2 months old. So got another axle. Put it in. And now hurray, the car works like a charm. Guess I got a new transmission now.
