k20a2 head problem...
so they finally gave me the bad news on my car after 3 weeks in the shop.... i had posted before about it being messed up.. so now i come to find out it dropped one of the valves into the piston... so now im stuck with a decision of either going with a stock valvetrain which the guy is charging 1700 or go with lighter retainers and an all around better setup for about 600 mores so total about 2300... so is this a good price?? would really appreciate the input thanks
with the 2300 it includes titanium retainers, new valves, softer springs.. the guy wants to basically have the head in case i decide to go with different cams or if i decide to build my motor a little motor.. the pistons are good acoording to the mecahanic and i saw them they look good only one of them has a very small dent on it but he said that was fine...
that one little small "dent" can throw a lot of things off balance i don't care what anyone says. If it isn't suppose to be there, then it's NOT suppose to be there.

Very true.
It really depends EXACTLY what is being done with that 2300 price tag. For 850 you can get Supertech valvespring, retainers, seats, valves, OEM stems and OEM headgasket. Are the guides being replaced? Like I said really depends on what exactly is being done. Also why would you want lighter springs?? You want stiffer not lighter than stock. How was this damaged caused? Misshift? Were there any metal shavings found on the head? You can buy an entire new head for 900 and have it installed for less.

You want to fix you're car with a part that's already "dented". I'll be waiting on the "I used a slightly damaged piston, now my engine is messed up" thread. If you're paying $2300 for your car to be fixed, make sure it's fixed. Would you swap out a dented fender for a slightly less dented fender?
I've replaced my valves, valvesprings, and retainers once already on my rsx-s due to miss-shifting. i had my head remachined, and resurfaced closest to stock specs. and my whole valvetrain was replaced to stock also for $1400 Labor included. Some say the money i spent i could've gotten an aftermarket valvetrain and such. but it all depends on the shop, labor cost, and what new valvetrain you decide to get. sorry to hear bout your motor..
Oh, and also, did you get a compression test done? if so, what were the results?
