Default New Cams ... problems need help.

Well I put my Type-S cams into my JDM h22a tonight and everything went cool except i had a bit of a bitch with the timming belt but i manged to work through it. The problem is once I got everything all bolted back together and went for a test run it ran like shyt. it sputtered and died above about 3k and idled like crap so I checked my timing<ignition not cam> and set it to the big + sign on the flywhell which i imagine is 0. It still ran like poop so I adjust the timing to the 15 mark on the flywheel about an inch below the 0 mark and it ran good. So what's the deal? did I mis allign the cams a tooth or so on the timming belt or is this to be expected with the new cams? Also buy moving my timing so far how will this effect anything else? ie. air/fuel curve am i going to be running really lean now? any input would be greatly appreciated. I do not have access to a dyno nor do I have adj. cam gears. so i'm kinda limited on options. Thanks
