Default 98 civic with aftermarket header CEL Q?

I have a 98 civic that had the factory exhaust mani crack on me. After weeks of searching and not able to find a replacement- i broke down and bought a 45 dollar ebay special stainless header.

The car is a daily commuter so i really dontneed that but i was tired of the exhaust leak noise.

Obviously i now have a CEL due to no CAT, how can i get rid of it. it was not on immediately but i get a P0420 code now.

and a few times randomly the car has just shut off while driving????? can anyone help on how.

nothing else has changed as far as gas milage.

please advise

I have the same problem. I called Honda a couple of days ago and they told me that there is an extended warranty on the emissions systems. Call Honda and see if your car qualifies for the free service and they wil replace the exhaust manifold and O2 sensors. Honda of North America phone is 1-800-999-1009.

so do you have both o2 sensors hooked up one in the header and one in the cat?

no -
factory manifold has the ca attached- it had a crack, one O2 goes before the cat and one after

new aftermarket header has no cat and 2 O2 holes, one up front and one near end of b-pipe

so there is not "one in the cat"
