I agree. Post the CEL codes. It's probably the catalytic converter, which for the 98 CX with a D16Y7 is a single unit combined with the header.

P0420 is catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank1).

When you get the codes scanned at Autozone they can enter any code into the part number search on their computers there and print out a piece of paper that says what the code means and what the common causes for that CEL to come on are.

This one should mean you have a bad catalytic converter though.

I think the CX motor is different from an EX motor and its catalyc converter is different as well..
The picture RonJ posted up is the exact same look as how mines look

Exactly.

EJ6-2nr is saying to remove your exhaust manifold (which contains your catalytic converter) and B-pipe. Replace them with an exhaust manifold, catalytic converter (mounted under the car) and B-pipe from an EX.

you still have to swap out exhaust or have a exhaust shop fab the cat in from a ex.. i did this as well those cats are known to crack they had a recall on them a long time ago. i bought a cheap header, hi flow cat from random technology and hks hi power exhaust
