Default coolant problem - need help

alright guys,

this morning i was driving for about 15 minutes and notice light steam coming out of my front grill. i popped the hood...and coolant was splattered everywhere. the coolant reservoir cap came loose. the radiator wasn't leaking either. what could possibly be the cause of this?

thanks

the coolant overflowed onto the hot radiator which caused it to steam. either someone left the cap loose or the cap is faulty and wont stay tight.

OP, doesn't hurt to replace your thermo, it's cheap and easy to do.

you people are nuts

maybe you didn't tighten the cap enough and it worked its way loose.

tighten it and make sure there's an actual problem.

If the resovoir cap (over flow bottle) popped off because of pressure, you could have a bad radiator cap, thermostat or head gasket leak. I would start with a new radiator cap.

Where was the temp gauge needle when this happened?
