LSVTEC, WITH CTR PISTONS,DO LS RODS NEED TO BE SHORTPEENE?
i have a stock ls block with ctr pistons, do the ls rods need to be shortpeen or not?, some people say no and some say yes, any comments or info would help, i dont want to run that set up if its not safe.
first of all, its shotpeened. As for do they have to be shotpeened, no. But it is recommened. You can keep stock ls rods and it will work just fine. Advantage to shotpeened rods is it will give the stock rods some additional strenth so if you plan on revving really high all the time, then it would be good to do. Also hope you changed out your rod bolts.
just like the last 2 said. if its already taken apart it is well worth it for the extra strength but your motor will survive without it.
i went to different shops and they all contridicted each other, but all u guys said the same thing so ill go with your opinions, i put arp rod bolts, and head bolts but some shops kept telling me that i needed to shotpeen them because if i didnt, then i wouldnt have any compression, whether thats bs or not i dont know,. when i tried to start the car the first time, the iddle would be very rough and the car felt like it had no power, so i just took it out of the car.but now i really want to get it fixed. thats why i ask if it needs to be shotpeened.
