Default Cutting fluid recipe for machine tool cooling? carbon

Hey- I am wondering if any one has ever come across a recipe to cook up coolant for misters. The prices for that stuff is outrageous. I bet back in the day the old timers made everything... I dont need it for heavy duty machining or non ferrous--just for a band saw bath for carbon. Im guessing it will need to be water solubale unless just one (or more) ingrediants are used instead of a water/oil mix. I know companys make bio-friendly oils for food and medical fab shops. Maybe veg oil?

I have a bunch of 5 gallon pails of water soluable coolant that I don't like to use in my CNC milling machines. It's lower quality stuff, which means it tends to rot faster. If you didn't know, all oil is basically bacteria food. This stuff will work fine in your bandsaw. Mix it up at about 20% oil 80% water for good lubrication. I can send you some, just need to brainstorm containers

If you want something really cheap just use antifreeze and water, has anticorosive and some lubricating properties.

there is nothing nastier than working with a machine that has rotting coolant.

it looks nasty, smells like ***, and feels like a film of floating jello over sewage!

if your really cheap, use anything man. i mean even spit is better than nothing.

straight up water would be better than nothing, but id buy distilled water, to reduce any corrosive issues.

I use Hangsterfer's to cut titanium and Transkut to cut stainless in the lattes. In the company that I work was changed the water soluble coolant of the milling machines for that reason (rotten smell and the bacteria growing). The new one never smell rott.

I use standard lenox cutting fluid mixed with water mixed with some powder my wife brings home for me from her dental office.

They use it to clean the lines in all their irrigation equipment. Keeps the fluid from funking up for months and months.

Without the powder the fluid only lasts a few weeks before it starts to stink and grow lol
