Default turbo D series carnage

Well the tiny rods finally let go. The results were pretty spectacular. The motor made 250 for a month and then i turned it down to 225 and ran it that way for the past 2 months. I allready started another vitara, eagle build so i should be up and running again in a week. When i finally held a cute little stock rod in my hand i understood why they break.Thought u guys would enjoy the pics...

I love it how the crankshaft took the piston down inside

This was a D5B8 bottom end with a Z6 head that was in the car I got before I got it:

haha i bet it was fun while it lasted, goes to show 220-250 is about the limit of the rods. Good luck on the vitara eagle build im doing the same project.

Haha. My e85 stock bottom end z6 threw a rod on me a while ago too. Same 3rd cylinder rod too. Check sig below if you want to how much it was making. But, it was fun while it last. 350+ hp here I come.

what was your total timing? My z6 threw a rod at 200whp. #2 cylinder. That motor lasted a week. I have a stock internal d16y8 making 250. so far so good, its been a couple months already.......

i dont think timing had much to do with it, the rods reached there physical limits on either there tensile loads from rpms or compressive from the addes cylinder pressure.

maybe jeff evans can explain how he tuned epic's stock internal z6 to 400whp.

to much cylinder pressure it what broke the rods. what causes cylinder pressure?

OP: Did you check your vaccum lines? it can be possible that maybe ur boost gauge line poped or one of those lines to the wastegate? I belive that was my problem when i threw the rod. Unfortunaly i'll never know =o(

on a side note I had a d15b vtec tuned to 260whp for 2 yrs, had no problems other than it being stolen from me

Yea i believe the rods just snapped because they reached their limit. We have all read and seen the 400 horse stock z6 and i think its very impressive but i don't think it should be compared to a real world daily driven car. I drive mine 180 miles round trip to work and back every day (modesto to san jose for the cali guys) and my bordem gets the best of my right foot. But anyway i will post pics of my build when i get the block back from the machine shop. I cant wiat to turn up the boost!!!
