HI every1!!

I NEED HELP!!

I just noticed that rain water or just water comes into the cabin of my dc1!! its coming from the left rear side of the dashboard.. water comes in and passes just beside the door hinge at the back of the dashboard WHEN I PARK UPHILL..

when i park DOWNHILL (backwards), nothing's wrong..

I poured a bucket of water at the top of the left hood hinge area and that's when water starts dripping into the cabin.. I can't really trace where it's coming from unless i take off the dash or maybe the plastic thing at the bottom of the windshield.. i dont know?!? waaaahh

My driveway's pretty steep (25 to 35 degrees) so maybe this is just normal ryt? maybe i just parked the car in a driveway that's a lil bit too steep? any1 out there having the same problem?

possibly could be your corner mirror i would check in that area possibly take the mirror off.

 

Oh man, sounds like the exact same problem I've been having for the past 3 years and I've never gotten around to fixing it, mainly because part of the frame rail under the fender will have to be removed (spot welds drilled out) to access the area where the water is coming in, and then re-welded back into place.

But anyway, yeah I've had water coming in for some time now. When the water runs down the windshield, it is supposed to go down into the cowl area below the plastic trim, and then drain out through a channel and then down to the ground behind the fender. Problem is that the water finds its way inside the car on its way down. It ends up coming in where the door wire harness passes through to inside the car, and then running down behind my ECU and down onto the floor.

For the past 3 years I just keep a couple of small towels underneath the carpet. I check them periodically and change them out with dry ones.

*edit* not my car, but someone else doing a RHD firewall swap and he had to remove those same pieces of the frame rail that I'll have to remove to get to where the water is leaking into my car.

This is the piece that has to come off, directly above the fender line:

Somewhere behind that piece that's removed is where the water is coming in.

I don't think it would be too hard to get that piece off and get it put back on, I just need to find someone who can weld to put it back on for me.

 

I had this problem too, I had it on the front driver side of the car. I bought some weather stripping from autozone and i popped that plastic cover on the lower part on the windshield and it went away. I recently had a new windshield put in and now it does it on the right side on me ECU yikes!. havent got around too fixing it, I might try that today and I will let you know, I'll have to wait till it gets dry outside cause it's raining right now.

 

well i have no choice but to try both ur suggestions.. hehe.. anywayz, i shoud get on to it..

hopefully, it works.. I still need to find a "welder friend" too, but ill have to try the easier ones first.. maybe do some "magic" to make it work..

 

i was thinking..

there must be some other way to fix this ryt? how did the rain water came in the first place? is something blocking the way like lil bits of dry leaf? is it because there's some rubber worn? maybe i should pour muriatic acid or something hehehe...

I have an idea, maybe we should just trace where the waters coming from.. As u said, water finds its way thru the hole where the wires come in ryt? what if we put some putty or something like that to block off the hole?? aint that easier??

I dont really want to do the towel thing for the next 3 years..lol

Believe me, I've thought about the problem many times over the years.

The water on my car is coming in through the hole where the wire harness from the door passes into the cabin of the car, so there's really no way to seal that up. The actual "hole" where the water is coming in is completely in-accessible unless you remove that portion of the frame rail like I showed.

If you look under your dash or pulled back the rubber boot near the door hinges, you'll see a hollow area where the wires go through, so there is actually 2 holes in that portion of the unibody structure. The outer hole is where the rubber boot covering the door wire harness attaches to the car. The inner hole is where the wires come inside the car, and it's also where the sunroof drain tube is routed out to the outside of the car.

There should not be any water inside this area, but somehow it's finding its way inside from an area up higher, back there behind that portion of the frame rail that has to come off.

So the water from the outside (under the cowl trim) comes inside a part of the unibody structure, and then from there drips down and inside the car through an existing hole in the unibody. You have to seal up the hole where the water is coming into the unibody, and in my case it's hidden behind the frame rail.

*edit* oh yeah, I tried adding weather stripping to my cowl trim, but it still finds its way inside the car.

does the leaking stop when u park downhill or on a flat area? is this Honda's engineering fault?

 

1st go to Acura or Honda and order qty 8 of part number 91608-SJ6-003. It is a small white rubber seal. They cost about $ 2.50 each 2nd remove the wiper arms and the wiper motor cowl. The wiper cowl is the long black panel under the wiper arms. Pop out the black circles and unscrew the white clips. You may also have to pull out the plastic pins under the rubber seal on the firewall side of the cowl. The panel is cumbersome. Use caution not to break the ends near the hood hinges. After you remove the cover there is another black cowl on the passenger side. This cowl covers the passenger cabin air intake. The leak is coming from the black plastic push screws that hold that cover on. When you remove the cover you can see the seals in the holes that the push screws were in. The rubber seal dry-rots over time and the sides split open. Water leaks in one drop at a time and adds up quickly. Once you have replaced the seals you should be leak free for another 9-10 years.

I'm offering this as an extension of the teg tip posted by 2ndjenn on how to fix the passenger side water leak, but I included the pictures here so other people might find it helpful in the process.

symptom: floor board on the passenger's side of the car becomes wet or soaked whenever it rains or you wash your car. If the carpet has been soaked for a while, mold or mildew may form over time, and you may notice a "musty" odor inside your car as a result.

possible cause: water is leaking into the air blower cabin and is dripping down into the passenger floor. The water leak into the air blower cabin is caused by failed rubber seals that are located right above it that have deteriorated over time.

Tools you'll need:
- philip head screw driver
- flat head screw driver
- pliers
- socket for removing wipers
- cleaning brush (optional)
- vaccum (optional)

OEM parts you'll need:
- rubber seal 91608-SJ6-003. This seal goes below a clip screw that holds down the plastic cover for the air blower cabin. Some people also call this air blower cover the "second cowl" just below the main windshield cowl that is right above it. There are eight of these rubber seals, as there are eight clip screws that hold down the air blower cover. The critical rubber seals that you will need to replace are the 2nd and 3rd seals from the left side, as these two are situated right above the air blower cabin. So when these two rubber seals have rotted, water will seep in through the clip screw holes that were once sealed and eventually into the air blower cabin and down into the passenger floor board. You will want to order eight of these.

- main windshield cowl CAP-SCREW ASSEMBLY 91501-SK7-013. There are six of these screws that go along the top of the windshield cowl. There are two parts to this screw: the top cap that pops off and the screw that goes into the threaded white plastic cowl holders that are attached just below the windshield glass. The screw portion is fragile, so they are easy to break if you use too much force in turning them. You may want to order three or four in case you do break some of the originals.

- main cowl LOWER RIVETS 91511-SK7-003. There are seven of these one-piece rivets that hold down the lower portion of the main windshield cowl. You may want to order three in case you bend some out of shape when you remove them to get the main cowl off, but I actually reused all of mine after I had finished.

- air blower cabin cover CLIP SCREWS 90657-SA6-003. Eight of these plastic screws hold down the plastic top cover for the air blower cabin. These eight screws go into eight holes which are sealed by the rubber seals mentioned above. This clip screw is a two-part piece. The top part consists of a threaded screw, and the bottom part is a rivet-like piece which holds the threaded screw portion in place. These clip screws can be removed using a combination of prying and unscrewing, but in removing the air blower cabin cover, I was forced to break two screws when they just simply refused to be taken out. You can order four or five just in case you end up breaking some like I did, or if you have money lying around and want to replace all of them with a new set then go ahead and order eight.

yep, that's a common problem with G2 Integras but G3's don't have that. I could only wish it was that simple to fix it.

Yeah I think mine does happen more if the car is pointed uphill, and not really when downhill because the water can't run backwards to get into the car if the car is pointed downhill.

Unfortunately when I wash my car, the driveway is sloped up and water always gets in.

 

I found where the leak's coming from.. it seems to come out from a worn seal ( the one that honda uses to stick metal to metal) at the back of the dash board...Its not from the hole where the wires go into the cabin (where i expected it to be) I think mine could be somewhat a factory error.. maybe they applied a thinner sealant than what their suppose to apply, that's why, over time, water penetrated??

Oh well, I applied some weatherproof silicone rubber sealant thingy on that area... it was really hard to reach!! but hopefully it'll do it.. Ill test it after 1 week, but for now, ill have to let it dry.. Whatever happens, Ill let you know guyz..

 

Yeah I found the water coming in about 3 years ago when I took my dashboard out. It was coming in through a hole in the seam sealer way up above the blower motor, near this arrow:

After I sealed up that hole, the water started coming in down around where the door harness comes inside the car. I just haven't gotten around to trying to fix that yet.

It seems that we have the exact same problem at the exact same location except mine's a rhd so the leak is at my passenger side( your driver's side), still near the blower motor..

well, hopefully mine will not end up wit the wire harness thing coz i just sealed up mine + resealed the windscreen wiper cowl.. hopefully this will prevent too much water coming in that area.. i have to wait for a couple of days more before i can test it just to make sure the seal is really really dry and at maximum bond..

Ill let you know what happens..

BTW, how did u remove the air blower motor? do u have to take the dash off or just remove the visible screws? thanks..

 

yea I removed my blower motor w/ the dash removed. Normally you're supposed to pull out the blower motor along w/ the A/C stuff as 1 unit, but I didn't want to discharge the A/C so I just man-handled the blower motor until I got it out.

I tried adding weatherstripping to my cowl trim, but that didn't do anything. Besides, water needs to get under the cowl normally to be able to run down to the ground behind the fender.

That's why this issue is tricky, because you don't want to block off the normal flow of water, as you could end up with more problems.

 

I cant wait to try if i fixed the leak so just tried it today.. parked the car uphill, pour a bucket of water onto that area.. checked if there's any water coming in.. nothing.. tried it again.. checked for some other spots that water might come in.. nothing.. hopefully it ends there.. so far, problem's fixed.. what happens next, i dont know..

 

I was able to bypass the leakage by running plastic conduit (3 or 4 ft not proper scale 3/4 inch diameter) to bottom of the body. Pull up on the collection tray to feed the conduit to the bottom. I comes pre-split so flatten it into an open channel. See below

 

hmmm.. well lets see i don't know why but my accord, my integra, and my civic hatch all leaked into the trunk. but i would get back there, in all the cars, and have someone spray it down with a waterhose and never could find the leak.

 

BUMP THIS UP!!!! I have the same problem.... however.... When It pours really Hard I can see the water drip from under my glove box onto my kick panel and trickle on to the carpet.... the **** sucks...

yeaaaaa.... same here Vangaurd.
i just came home to find my EG that was parked for 2yrs has a swimming pool in the back floor board and ruined a few things in my alarm along with my sound system.
so i fixed all the issues and couldnt for the life of me figure out where the leak was.

mind you im also parked on an inclined driveway.

i suspected the door jam or sun roof (stock)...
So i then stripped the interior out and waited for it to rain [today] and found a puddle starting to form... traced it to the corners of the dash. BOTH driver and passengers side. but MUCH heavier flow on the drivers side...

SO... i cleaned up the puddle and i just covered the cowl to make sure water couldnt get in... and when it stops raining im gonna check and see if more water made it in.

this ****in BLOWS. i only ever had a problem like this with the VW's i owned. never any of my hondas.

 

that reminds me, i gotta order a tube of seam sealer for when i rip mine apart to find this leak
