Either the viper 5900sst or the clifford 50.5x sst. Both are the same and have better range then the 791 or the rsx3.5

oh ok the range is the biggest difference...what makes the range important? i know its a stupid question but i dont know much about alarm systems

Umm, you can be further away from your car and know when the alarm is set off.

the 5900sst and 791xv are the same thing except the range on the 5900ss is up to 1 mile i believe and the 791 is less or something like that......

The 791xv and the 5900sst are not the samething. look at there names. One is a responder unit and the other is a sst unit. Two different alarms. Two different freq.

they might have different type of antennas that recieve the frequency from the remote but other than that they are the same thing. I know cuz i worked at a best buy and did installations including both of these alarm/remote start systems. all the wiring is the same except for the signal they get to the antenna...

You are wrong. And if you keep posting wrong information I will edit your post. The brains are diffrent. The harness might be the same but thats were it ends. You can not swap antennas back or forth and have the unit work. You can not swap remotes back and forth. I am a clifford dealer. This was one on the first thing tried when the unit came out
Im just guessing but i think what civicpride is trying to say is that they are essentially the same as far as features and looks.
I know when people ask me about the difference between the two i just tell them its the range, they look and do the exact same thing. Average consumer will not care about the brain being different internally, and i just assumed that swapping the antenna will not make a responder unit a sst unit just cause DEI will lose alot of money from people who are willing to upgrade.
But just to clear things up besides the range is there anything else that is different between the two for example maybe one unit has some features and options the other doesnt?
oh and if i remember correctly i think the sst units have an extra 2 pin harness that controls a horn output, where as the older units did not.

Out of the 7 posts you've made on this site, 5 or 6 of them have been about how you either work at CC or you worked at Best Buy.
I'm sorry, but that information is irrelevant, and frankly, neither makes you the expert that you're implying that you are.

Not to hijack the thread but I have a 791 ( Obviously, you know this already Wrx ) and I'm looking at wiring it and leaving the remote start off of it so I don't have those big 10ga wires sticking out.
I'm setting the alarm up based off Suspendedhatch's website and the yellow 12v ignition input wire is on my remote start ribbon harness, not the main harness. Is it ok to de-pin it to go straight to the ignition wire like it normally would?

eh, it is relevant but just not quite as relevant as wrx's experience, although i'd have to say that most of us here would never trust one of those companies to install our alarms has less to do with the fact that they can't install a working alarm than the fact that they don't take the time to install an alarm that won't be easily cut out.

de-pin the the the remote start harness but leave the yellow one. Then tag this to the ignition. If you want I mail you one allready done so you don't have to mess up that one. I have plenty.
If I understand you, you are talking about repining the H1/4 location, [if I remember correctly, ign. input on Viper alarms].
I have done so more then a few times in the past, [I would just move the door pos.(+) trigger, violet (H1/6) or remote start activation input, white/blue (H1/10) to the H1/4 location, however with later models this has not worked as the trace on the circuit board is no longer there.
On later models I have opened the units up and just soldered in a "jumper" from the ribbon wire location (2) to the H1/4 location so I could eliminate the extra plug.
Works for me, however, this would void any warranty.

Thanks but I got it done. I figured I'd just depin it and if it was wrong I'd just throw the wires back on. I was kinda scared when everyone was talking about depinning but these harnesses are easy, not like doing the ecu. I practically have to break the damn ecu plug to get the wires out.
FCM, I WAS thinking about just adding the yellow wire to the main harness but then since the remote start harness is already pinned at the brain for it i figured it'd just be a safe bet to use that spot and depin all the other wires BUT that one.
Thanks guys. Oh and Wrx if you're reading, I'm not throwing this on yet, I'm just getting the wiring ready is all.

I tested this a while back. Adding a wire to the old location on the main harness will not work on the 50.5x.
first of all im not posting wrong information and second of all its kind of weird that you would notice something like that b18......I was trying to explain that theyre the same thing in the fact that theyre both alarms and remote starts and have just about the same features. I had a friend who swapped out his 791xv for the new 5900 and all the wiring from the 791 hooked right up to the 5900......except for the antenna that was replaced. Why complicate things? im not bragging and saying im an expert but i have experience with these. ill give you that, bringing up i worked a best buy and circuit city is irrelevant........
yea, your right theyre not the same but what do they do overall? you drive them dont you? you put gas in them so you can drive them right? can you see what im trying to get to you?
