00 Teg GSR-T whining noise when starting out in first!! Help!?!?!?!?
To start out I have a 00 Gsr with a drag gen 3 turbo kit and stock internals. I upgraded the clutch to a stage 3 ACT and a Exedy lightened flywheel. My problem is when I start out in first gear I will get a whining sound that will last for a second. It doesn't happen everytime but I cant seem to pin point where its coming from. I can get the car to make the sound everytime if I start out low in the rpm's basically almost allowing it to stall. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!
Well, it's kinda hard to tell where the sound is coming from with that description and not being there to hear it.
Does it happen in every gear at low RPM's?
Are there any type of vibrations to go with?
Try to get it to make the sound while you are under the hood. It will help you to pin-point the sound.

The car will only make the sound in first gear when I'm starting out it will not do it in any other gear or any certain rpm. Also, there is no vibrations to go along with the whine/squeal that I can tell. I've tried to simulate the sound while under the hood but have been unable to reproduce the sound it will only do it while I'm driving. Thanks for any help!
For the whining noise Im not sure, but the starting problem in first gear might be because of the lighter flywheel. How light is exactly? If you cant tell by now than I can tell you its much easier to stall in a car with a lighter flywheel. Try giving it more gas when taking off.
There's really no problem starting out, if I give it alot of gas I rarely hear the sound its only when the car starts out in a lower rpm range. As for the flywheel I believe it's the 9 lb (8.8) Exedy its been a couple of years.
How many miles are on your car? Sounds like you got the same whine I have in my 95 gsr. My problem is the pilot bushing is worn out. Is the low whine in 1st gear with your foot off the gas? If so, that's most likely the culprit. This would be completely wrong if you had replaced it when you put in the new clutch.

I only have 57,000 miles (not ragged on) but I didn't replace anything but the clutch and flywheel when I had the transmission out. Pilot bearing huh? I'll have to look into that. Thanks!
I was incorrect about the pilot bushing. After seeing a similar post and double checking my car's symptoms, it's the throw out bearing. Does the noise go away when you step on the clutch? If so, that's the give-away.

This would happen every time you push the clutch in.
OP: this is not your problem.
