Default How long does it take you to fab a "ram horn" style manifold?

I ask because there is a local fabricator that is building a fairly basic (I feel) ham horn style manifold and he is making it seem like it a very long process to make it.

So basically, if you had to make the collector and you already knew exactly how to design the manifold, how long would it take on average to creat one?

PS: a vertical bandsaw was used by the local fabricator to make the collector.

Hahaha....oh boy....you know how long those Ham Horn's can take.

This question really can't be answered. It depends on who's making it, what their experience level is, whether or not they've specifically done manifolds before, and a bunch more variables.

Fab time can probably range anywhere from 5-15 hours depending. It just really depends on how well your jigs are set up, and how quickly you can piece the mock-up together accurately.

If you feel things are "basic" though, you should dive right in and find out for yourself.

I have made manifolds for myself in the past, and I am a fabricator by trade.
(My screen name may give it away) When I have put one together in the past they have always been more complex, and it has always only been a one off. So I can not use my past experiences as a realistic base to estimate the time needed.

I am trying to get a general feeling, from the community, about the amount of time that is needed to build one. The local guy has made bundles of these manifolds, I just get the feeling that he is extremely lazy.

Lets follow this senario:
You have been making manifolds for over 2 years
You have an accurate Jig for the manifold
You have a verticle bandsaw with a jig to make collectors
And you have a complete facility to yourself for fabrication.

How long would it take you to make one?
I'm looking for responses from different people...

I guess you just lost me. If you've made complicated "one off" manifolds, I would just think you could certainly have a feel for the time involved.

How long ago did you pay the guy for the mani?

The manifold being made is not for me, a friend of mine is having it done. He paid for the manifold three weeks ago.

When I made my manifolds I did it over several weeks because, at the time, I was welding as a hobby. I am asking here because there are many people on this forum that make these all the time.

I tell people 2-3 weeks, I have other orders to complete, a long with routine maintenance that we do, a long with running a business as well.

Manifolds can't be rushed

one off, it would take me about 8~10 hours.

jig is a different story. all depends on how you set it up.

Yeah, I mean if the guy has other orders, and has to order materials and flanges, 3 weeks is, in no way, unreasonable IMO.
