Default Problems installing 98-01 tape player

Hi, I recently bought a 98-01 OEM cassette player off of ebay, and the ad said it would fit any 98-01 Integra. I've seen it installed in other Integras so I assumed that it would fit in my 2001 Integra. I just got the tape player today, and it is the 98-01 tape player. I got it plugged into the back of the stereo and got it to work. Then I realized that it doesn't fit in the center console under the stereo. My OEM cd player has the storage bin on the bottom of the cd player. There is a lip on the bottom of the storage bin that goes arround the plastic part above the ashtray.

It's really hard to explain but above the ashtry is a plastic piece that the storage bin sits on. Then there's a plastic piece that goes under the storage bin lip. It blocks the tape player from going into the center console, and even when I took the tape player faceplate off it still didn't fit. The plastic piece above the ashtray looks like it's molded into the center console, which goes around the glovebox, so I don't think it's possible to take it out.

I've seen a couple of for sale ads for 98-01 OEM tape players, saying that they fit 98-01 Integras, but I don't think that's true. I'm pretty sure tape players were only an option in 1998 for 98-01 Integras. I don't understand why they would put a whole different center console in Integras with tape players. Please help, I know this is hard to understand, but I'm sure at least one person has installed a 98-01 tape player. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I took some pictures today to show the problem with installing the tape player. When I tried to install the tape player yesterday, I had taken the armrest off, the plastic part right in front of the armrest off, and the ashtray out. I also took the plastic bin off the stereo and this is when I saw the plastic tab that blocks the tape player. If these pictures aren't good enough to see the problem, I will try to take pictures with the radio uninstalled.

The first picture shows the plastic tab that blocks the tape player. The coins are holding up the storage bin and the ashtray is below that. The plastic part that comes off with the ashtray is not connected to the plastic tab that blocks the tape player. The red line that goes from the bottom of the radio to the top of the ashtray shows the height of the tape player to show how the plastic tab blocks it.
Taking the faceplate off of the tape player still doesn't allow the tape player to fit. Even if the tape player was installed from the back of the center console, I don't think it would be able to fit over the plastic tab.

This picture shows the part of the dashboard that the plastic tab is connected to.

Somebody please help. I don't want to return the tape player just to find out there was a way I could make it work. I'm sure at least one person has the 98-01 tape player in their car, or has installed one before.

Here's a picture of the tape player from a classified ad on Honda Tech.

That plastic tab that you're pointing at is not connected to the glove box.

That plastic "filler" is connected to the ash tray/cigarette assembly.

This is what you need to do is remove your ash tray/cigarette assembly - then install your tape player - then reinstall your ash tray/cigarette assembly. The lip will probably go over the tape player, that is the tape player's bottom edge will tuck into the lip.

That tape player combo unit can be installed on any 94-01 Integra, with the right connector.

If you look closely at Dee's picture, removing the ashtray also removed the lip.

When I tried to install the tape player, I took out the whole ashtray assembly. The plastic tab that blocks the tape player was not connected to the ashtray. It is on the plastic part that the ashtray clips onto. It looked like the plastic piece that the ashtray clips onto was part of the center console. I didn't see anything holding it to the center console. I'll take more pictures with the ashtray out sometime soon.
