Default B20/VTEC. Dipping Idle and car sometimes dies. BAD MPG. HELP

Ever since it has gotten colder, my motor has been idling very funny when in neutral at a stop sign or something. Every now and then it will even die out if the idle dips low enough. I'm throwing up a cel code for the IAT sensor but I was told that wouldn't be the source of the problem. Ever since this has happened, my MPG has also gone to crap. Any ideas why it does this?

It's it running good except for the idle?

Maybe try for a tune up.

Runs fine except for idle. I just replaced the plugs but that didn't help either.

why wouldn't the intake air temperature sensor be the source? ecu's don't just magically throw codes for the hell of it

Well it has been throwing up that code for awhile and I was just told maybe that isn't the sole reason for the weird idle.

How do I replace the IAT sensor?

By who? I thought you had already research this issue, and ruled it out.

it might be iat cuz the ecu reads the temp of the incoming air and depending on if its reading the air as hot or cold you might be adding too much fuel or you might run lean... i think its reading the air as cold thats why your mpg sucks ballz and your car is dieing(too rich)

it could be an ignition coil or ignition control module

By the guy who had the car before me, he said it that it MIGHT not be the only reason that my car is acting weird he's not too sure either. Anyways, how would I go about fixing the IAT sensor.

well we had the exact same problem and i was throwing the same code for my iat sensor but 50 bucks later realized thats not it so i replaced another sensor and its running great so try changing your idle possisioning sensor. problem is this sensor it riveted on to your throttle body so your going to haft to drill out the sensor and replace the new one with screws holding it on. or play cheap and find a throttle body in the junk yard with a good sensor on it

Problem solved
