Which flywheel would be better to use for 1/8 mile drag racing
Which flywheel would be better to use for 1/8 mile drag racing in a 92 hatch with 250 hp shifting at 9000rpms. A stock flywheel at 22 ilbs or an aftermarket flywheel at 7lbs. It has a gsr tranny with a kazz lsd. Runing 22 inch slicks.
well there are alot of factors that contribute to that answer.. first off have you run the car before and with what weight flywheel? next how was your traction.. if your traction was 100% then a heavier flywheel wont hurt. it will actually make it harder for the engine to bog down due to the heavier rotating mass. but if you blow the tires off then you might want to try a lighter one so that it will be less shock to the tires when you let the clutch out.
A lighter flywheel will potentially gain you MPH and some acceleration.
It will however make it harder to do 2nd gear burnouts
I run a 9lb Chromoly flywheel with my GSR and i haven't had any trouble with it

think inertia , lighter flywheels tend to work better in road race aplication vs drag because most of time you tend to loose your power band by the time your shift light kicks in and you shift your rpm will drop to much to quick ....lighter accelerates much quicker but it also drops the same way. in a drag car once you have the rpm up there what you wanna do is keep it up there so a heavy flywheel will rev a bit slower but maintain rpms and keep the tires in motion in a perfect world you wanna have a maximun drop of 400rpm per shift
hope it helps in anyway

well there you have it. basically you just need to test both and see what flywheel works best for you
