Default VSS????

So my speedo started jumping around on me. Not smoothy like i've seen other people's cars do when they have a bad vss... but jerky like it's been twanged and it kinda goes back and forth like a tuning fork. it used to work better after the car was warmed up but now it's way off and never reads the correct speed. i got a new speedo and a new cluster from an ex and the tach works but the new speedo doesn't and it's the second speedo i've tried. my original sorta works in both clusters but the new speedo doesn't work in either. could my problem be a bad vss and the reason the new speedo doesn't work because my car is an auto and the donor speedo was a manual? i doubt it's a bad cluster because the tach and other gauges work. and the new speedo seems to be in great shape and i was assured it worked. i can't figure this one out so please help! thanks

you replace the speed sensor yet? check that for corrosion on the plug and the vss itself..

alot of time's the pins on the vss get corroded and come loose

If that's ^^^^^^^^^^^^ good, check your fuses.

This is more than likley your Vehicle Speed Sensor. (Or as you put it VSS)

This is not a uncommon thing to happen, and its pretty simple to switch out. They run about 90$ brand new. But if you go pull one at a junkyard, next to nothing.

the speed sensor is mounted on top of the tranny? can it be seen looking down from the hood??? i'll check out my fuses and try to find it. if the sensor is fine... could the problem be that the speedo is from a manual car and mine's an auto?????

VSS is easy to replace. I just replaced mine. If you gotta auto you have to use and auto vss, you can get it out of and 92-00 civic or 94-01 integra. B and D series share the same VSS except when it comes to being 5 spd or auto...
