might be screwed (kinda long)
ok so about 2 months after i got my 06 r18 there was a major malfunction with my transmission, basically it wouldnt go into 2nd at all it would pop and grind out. i took it to honda and they kept it for over 3 weeks to bring in a specialist to prove that it was not manufacturer default and that it was from abuse. they found 2nd gear and its internals were chewed and that it was soley my fault. they specifically stated that the next time it happens it will not be under warrantee. well my car is at honda at the moment for again, problems with the transmission. this time the car drives perfectly fine, the only problem is that there is a very noticable kind of scratching or grinding noise coming from near the tranny only when i am in gear. even at idle the noise is there untill i push in the clutch. the noise gets louder wen i am moving and is loudest if to say i am in a lower gear coming to a stop to slow down. my question is this, i understand how i could have abused the car wen i first got it, it was my first car, nonethless it was stick and i was fairly new at stickshift, i enjoyed it a lot and of course would do a lot of quick shifting, i obviously wasnt very good yet and i mishifted multiple times into 2nd gear causing it to grind. but now almost a year later the car has about 15,000 miles on it and i can honestly say i have mishifted maybe 3 times in a year since they repaired my transmission. i cant see how i couldve caused the transmission to break after a year like that. i have never taken it to the track, i never rev up and drop the clutch to do a long burnout and i honestly dont abuse the car that much. the dealer called my mom today and said that they thought the car was in an accident because they have never had to do the same kind of thing twice to a tranny. the car was never in an accident and they are threatening to keep their word about not repairing it due to abuse. they say it could cost almost 3k to repair if not under warranty. so basically, ANY SUGGESTIONS?
You may want to put cliffs for some people.
First suggestion call Honda Corporate and tell them that the dealership is threatening you and explain the situation. Remember to tell the truth, honesty goes a long way.

the good news that i just heard from my dad is that the only way the dealer is saying they wont cover it is if the same exact problem happened again, last time a metal piece from the pressure plates was bent and so unless that same piece is bent it is under warranty. also last time i couldnt put it into 2nd. there is no problem whatsoever with shifting or driving. it is just a noise right now so i mgiht be ok.
well what im being told now is that the dealer doesnt want to cover it. they said that i have been "racing and powershifting" which screwed up the transmission. i think its complete bullcrap and i really cannot afford to pay for all the work that needs done. i know i can call corporate but how can i get this to all change? theyre obiviously gonna take the word of the techs at the dealer over mine. i know i havnt been racing and i certainly dont powershift, that is what screwed the car up a year ago wen i was inexperienced with stick. anybody wanna help me out?
everything is alright now, the dealer is paying for the tranny, i have to pay for the burnt clutch pad and that is all. im glad it worked out in my favor. i really did change my driving habits after the first time but i guess i didnt change them enough. thanks for the help
Check your states lemon law. A vehicle will qualify for Manufacturer buy back if it spends a certain amount days accumulative at the dealership. Some states say 30 days some say 45. The 3 weeks and anyother time spent add up. Check into it.

Great let them prove it. You should have taken your car to a different dealer after the 1st try.

Change your driving habits? What so you were abusing the car then? If that is the case, they shouldn't have warrantied the tranny since it was your fault. You are very lucky they did.

i know im lucky they covered it. as i stated in the OP i was new at driving the car the first time and i tried a lot of quick shifting and of course fails multiple times. through the past year i have not grinded out more than probably five times only mishifted into 2nd and 3rd a couple times. i guess the car couldnt handle quick shifting over a year. like i said i guess i didnt change my habits enough and this is obviously a lesson. i dont need negative posts
Manual transmissions can take a lot of abuse. If you say you've been taking it easy while driving and such I believe you. I don't know what everyone else is talking about saying it's your fault and your driving. You know what hard driving is and you know what abuse is when it comes to your transmission. Like I said, manual transmissions can take a LOT before they finally crap out. If you were careful with your car and driving habits, there should be no problems with your transmission. Hell, I used to mess around in my car all the time and I had no problems whatsoever with the clutch.
You should not let the dealer bully you around like that. You should have paid for NOTHING in this repair. And the first time you brought it in for your transmission problem, they should not have given you that bullshit threat. Stop going to this dealership, report them to Corporate. If you do have to go this dealership again and they continue with this bullshit, hire a lawyer and take them to court. The LAW backs you up no matter what the dealership says. Unless the dealership has diagnostic readings proving that YOU are at fault for the damage done to your car, they have to fix it under warranty. Again, I highly recommend that you report this dealership to Corporate. I doubt Honda wants to have a dealership that is threatening customers who have legit problems.
Have a nice day.

Two different issues.
The first time, it sounds like you destroyed the second gear synchro set.
The second time, it sounds like an input shaft bearing failed.
You are very fortunate that they covered the first problem, because it was obviously caused by abuse. They shouldn't have covered it, but did.
The second problem, if that is indeed the problem as I suspect, should be covered because it is not due to driver abuse.
In the future, stop driving like a wankjob and slamming into 2nd and 3rd. Shift like a normal person and you won't have problems missing gears.

well the 2nd problem, like my brothers friend who drove it wen i first having problems tuought of right away was peices from internals rattling around. i think it was a chipped tooth. i cant say that both times were not my fault. i definately didnt drive like a grandma. like i said i did a lot of quickshifts and such quite often over a year. now that i have thought about it im thinking the reason it failed the 2nd time is because the transmission was not properly broken in after it was rebuilt the first time. i only waited about a week or so before i hit redline going into 2nd again. i figured if i didnt do the stupid powershifts i was doing the first time, then i was alright. heres a question though. if i shift before 3k all the way through winter untill spring(about 4 months from now in ohio) and give the tranny plenty of time to break in, will that prevent this from happeneing again? i know im not the only one on this site that redlines their car and honestly thats about all i did the past year to constitute abuse. im just thinking it needed more break-in time.
