Terrible noise coming from reverse gear. :(
I have a 97 Civic DX. It's pretty plain and I just use it to commute to work and back, I never drive it hard at all. Well the other night when I put the car in reverse I hear a loud CHUNK and car popped out of gear... I put it back in reverse and backed up as normal. Well the next day it would make the same noise every few times I put the car in reverse and sometimes it would act like it was sticking in reverse gear. Today it's not making that loud noise anymore, but I do hear a very fine, very audible, high pitched squeal and I know it's two metal pieces rubbing against each other. So now every time I put the car in reverse it sounds like metal on metal, and even when i stop and take the car out of reverse it continues to make that noise until I put it in another gear and start moving. Any thoughts or help would be MUCH appreciated!!!!

Re: Terrible noise coming from reverse gear. :( (BauleyCivic)
Well this is probably a stupid question, but is that going to be extremely expensive to have repaired? I'm assuming it's going to cost a lot, it sounds expensive Thanks.
Also if that was the problem, is that something that can cause any major damage if continue to drive it like that? I know it can't be good for the car, just curious what it will do if I can't afford to fix it at the moment
