Clutch, Mater cylinder, Slave, Please Not Trans
Alright before anyone gets mad at me for posting this I did a search and went through over 35 threads looking for my problem.
I was about to race an s2000 so i was going to drop it into third. When doing so it was really hard, so i kind of slammed it in and it made a grind. about 20 minutes later my clutch got weird. The first half had NO tension (which it usually does) and i wasn't able to down shift. so i decided to drive home. on the way i got stopped at a light when it turned green i tried to put it in first but it would not happen. tried second, would not happen and so on with all gears. it is literally impossible to get in any gear! so i turned off the car shift into 3rd(by the way when the car is turned off shifts perfectly) and stay in third till the next light. i had to repeat the process. I CANT SHIFT AT ALL WHEN THE CAR IS ON. Checked the clutch master cylinder... no leaks. Checked the slave cylinder... no leaks. My clutch extends all the way in the original position but when i depress the first half is just nothing..no tension. second half is normal. clutch still hold power. WTF is going on dude. im so pissed. i cant drive my car.

sounds like you may need a clutch slave and master slave...hopefully the pressure plate is ok...have someone step on the cluth while you observe the throwout fork..see if the fork starts moving as soon as the clutch is being pressed....if not then i would replace both slave and master slave... if it is moving as soon as the clutch is being pressed, then sounds like you have a pressure plate/throw out bearing problem, it's not releasing the clutch disc...its more than likely your slave's though
I checked the fork... no movement. hopefully it is something as simple as the cylinders. thanks. any one else have an opinion?
go to an autoparts store and get the clutch rebuild kit with the oring seals, its only like 7-10 dollars, its such an easy fix. try that on your slave and then change the master
I literally just replaced the master cylinder about a month ago and the slave was replaced when the car had ~150k on it, so it's neither of those. You either destroyed the clutch or throw-out bearing I would say...
Sorry to hear about this, I NEVER once had a problem with that clutch/drivetrain.

f**k dude, i dont want to have to drop the tranny, that is such a pain in the ***. i might just get a new tranny, considering it is the original one right?
but the clutch still holds power once it is in gear. what about the pressure plate? damn i wish it was just the damn cylinders.

im betting on the pressure plate. when you downshifted, you either released the clutch too early when the gear was not fully in, or you didnt depress it fully. but you still jammed it into gear, therefore you probably damaged the pressure plate fins. it could be the throwout bearing though.
good luck.
good luck.
hey i forgot to mention that if i let it sit overnight i am able to drive it in the mourning for about 10 minutes with no shift problems. the it just goes back to being stuck.
my 1988 acura legend does the exact same things that your car is doing. it's locked out of all gears and the clutch sits on the floor until i manually lift it with my left foot. I have to turn the car off, put it into a gear, and crank it again to get it to move. After a few hours, it shifts fine for a bit then the pedal hits the floor again. I am being told it is either the slave or master clutch cylinder. also, the clutch pedal has been really hard to depress lately.
i am eager to see more responses. i will be ordering the cylinders very shortly.

so my clutch dropped to the floor a couple minutes ago. im pretty sure that its my cylinders. i will change them tomorrow and see if were all fixed up.

No, it's an ACT XTSS pressure plate and organic disc.

The PP on that car is an ACT Extreme.
After reading through this thread the problem is definitely one of your cylinders. Try bleeding them and checking for air in the line. I have seen cars do this before where after driving for a bit air gets pulled into the system and you loose pedal pressure. Just try bleeding first and then replace. You may want to start with the slave first since it is cheaper. It wouldnt be a bad idea to replace the whole system though with a nice new line also.

EY MAN THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY EG AND I WENT CRAZY FOR A WHILE TRYNA FIND LEAKS BUT NO LUCK...MY PEDAL HELD PRESSURE BUT CLUTCH WOULDNT ENGAGE EITHER...IT TURNED OUT THAT MY CLUTCH MASTER WAS LEAKING INTERNALLY, ONE OF THE SEALS INSIDE HAD TORN OR SOMETHING SO NO PRESSURE WAS BEING HELD IN THE LINES IT WAS JUST BYPASSED IN THE MASTER...SO TRY REPLACING UR MASTER AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS...HOPE THIS HELPS...KEEP US POSTED ON HOW IT TURNS OUT...
Sounds like what happened to me.. except i had decent pressure in my pedal. I threw a spring in my disc. Spent 120 for a master cylinder and slave before i found it was my clutch. Good luck with it.

Good to hear. Strange though, because that master cylinder had less than 2000 miles on it, and the slave had about 15k on it, and both were purchased brand new. Either way, I'm glad you got it fixed. Those chips are in the mail
