Default Question on changing the heater core

all i need to know is :

is it a must to pull the dash to change the heater core in a integra. ive pulled dashes before but never had to change a core, ive got a 98 integra and i keep getting puddles of antifreeze on the passenger side floor board so to me it must be the core. so has anyone changed it by not taking out the dash, i know taking out the dash is the easier but can it be done by not. im just getting lazier the older i get any info would be great thanks

If you take it out. It would be alot faster to do it. If you don't BIG pain in your ***.

Well be sure that your heater core actually needs replacing. Your passenger side floor can be wet from the front cowl not being sealed.

Hey you guys I am having a huge problem getting the heater core box out. The dash is out, the lines are disconnected but something is still holding it in. Any suggestions?

Nut on the firewall, as I mentioned in the other thread.

And for others who may read this thread, not only do you have to remove the dash, but you ALSO must remove the A/C evaporator box before you can get the heater box off. This also means you have to discharge the A/C before starting the job, and recharge it afterwards.

DO NOT release the gasses into the atmosphere. You need a shop to do this for you, because they need to measure the amount of oil that comes out of the system, so that they can put the same amount back in when you get it recharged.

I took my car to a shop to have the system discharged, and told them I would be back on Monday morning to have it recharged. They noted the amounts, I paid for half of the work, then came back on Monday after I replaced my heater core and got the car back together so they could recharged the system, and I paid for the rest of the work. Total amount charged by the shop was around $120 I think.

Thanx buddy,
I found it yesterday after about 3 hours of trying to yank it out. That made me feel like a pretty big d/a lol. But I got it changed and will soon be driving my 91 integra LS again. Btw, why in the hell do they put that lip from the a/c box behind the h/c box? Integre pissed me off with that one. Then I saw a relay switch that said assembled in Mexico. Great people but I dont know how long their car production had been going on then lol. Thanx a lot guys, later.
