how much to rebuild gsr engine
my 96 gsr is starting to burn oil and soon will need to be rebuilt or replaced. how much would it be if i pulled the motor out and have a shop rebuild it (hone, replaces rings, bearings, ect...) how much does one of these short block go for? if i was to rebuild it myself, how much in parts would it be? (bearings, rings, gaskets, ect...)
Close to a thousand for parts for you to rebuild it yourself and have a shop hone it.
Probably closer to 2k if you pulled it and took it to a shop.
800 for a nice low millage C1 shortblock.

For machine work and assembly, i paid $700. I pulled out the motor brought in the head and block to get a valve job, head resurfaced, block was decked, overbored .5mm hones, and then assembled the block with new pistons pressed in, new rings, bearings and arp rod bolts. Also had the bottom end balanced and crank was micropolished along with the flywheel resurfaced. I then picked up the block and head and assembled it myself. Parts and machine work cost me a total of 1200. But now i got a brand new gsr motor stroked with a ls crank and ls rods with ITR pistons.
hey listen my father owns a machine shop and i happen to work there a few days a work when im not workin my other job soo i could hook you up on jus a rebuild for somewhere between 500 and 700 dollars.
if your around me. bring me your block, i'll charge u 850 for everything including assembly, rings, pistons, r&r pistons, deck, honed, hot tank and wash, bearings, new oem water pump, and seals ( pan, crank, rear main). or bring me your bare block and ill do the machining only for 350. hone, deck, hot tank and washed. if u need parts pm me and ill quote u on specifics. if u want the head rebuilt with new stem seals, reface valves, resurface head, hot tank and wash, for 225, or i can do all that plus 3 angle vj for 300.

So you got a valve job, resurfaced head, decked block that's bored, pistons/rings, bearings, rod bolts, ls crank that has been micropolished, ls rods and resurfaced flywheel for 1200?

It was a local machine shop that does mainly domestic work, however, 2 or the guys there have over 30 years experience in machine work and in the past 5 years or so, they have gotten more and more honda blocks and heads to work on. The turn around time was pretty quick, it took them 2 days to complete the machine work and assemble the bottom end.
yea well it doesnt take too long to do any of that. if its a slow shop or u bring it on a slow day it can all be done in a day if the guy knows what he is doin.
I brought everything to them on monday afternoon around 2:00 PM, he had 2 other honda heads to do some work on, i picked it up wednesday afternoon around 5:00 PM. Guys were hella cool, didn't charge me for hot tanking or micropolishing my crank

you'd be amazed at what some of these local domestic shops can do for such low prices
i had my head port and polish, hot tanked, decked, deburred, valve job, and assembled for $330
i dropped some more stuff off last week, whole rotating assembly balanced, rods shotpeened, and new pistons pressed on for $200
