Default CR/VTEC questions

I want to build a CR/Vtec engine to put in my 98 GSR. I found a b20b4 engine at a local salvage yard and was wondering if this engine would be a good one to build? And what all do i need to do to the block to put the b18c1 head on it? I also want to know if there is anywhere i can buy forged pistons, eagle rods, and eagle crankshaft for this engine?

The B20 is pretty much the same thing as a B18B1...

marketpalce is your best bet for parts, what are your goals with this engine

There are quite a few aftermarket parts available for the B20 engines.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1676914 >>> This has to be the most informative breakdown of an LS/VTEC or B20/VTEC build on Honda-Tech.

I'd also suggest reading up on tech articles on b20vtec.com.

My current setup is a B20B JSpec shortblock, 100% stock, with a milled/rebuilt B16A2 VTEC head from a '00 Civic Si, and a Skunk2 70mm throttle body. Everything else is stock - including injectors - aside from an AEM fuel rail and pressure regulator, and a shitastic Matrix 4-2-1 two-piece header. My tuning is done through CROME.

I opted to not buy the Golden Eagle VTEC conversion kit, rather, I bought an OEM Honda B16 headgasket, had a braided stainless hose fabricated to run from the head to the oil pressure sensor port on the back of the block [used a brass T-fitting into the block], and held everything together with OEM ITR head-bolts.

I still have the stock B20 oil pump, which I do not recommend using - definitely upgrade to a GSR or ITR pump. I also have the stock 240cc injectors - another ill decision. Run 310cc injectors for an all-motor setup, or 440ccs+ for boosted apps. I also wouldn't recommend spinning the engine past 7000 without upgrading crank and rod bearings, and using ARP bolts for the rods - I'm a glutton for punishment, and spin my bone-stock bottom end to 7800 everyday, done this for about 7k miles now, with no issues.

As far as aftermarket rods go, the LS and B20 engines are the same. Cranks are interchangeable between the two as well.

Shop around for pistons with an 84mm bore - this will fit the B20 block. Most popular choices include RS Machines, with their ITR-style 11.5:1 compression pistons.

If you're going to dump a bunch of money into a B20 block, i hope you're staying NA because they are the worst block for a boosted app. The stock B20 sleeves aren't known for their strength

to an extent...they're great for power (until you blow it up 5000 miles later, MAX)

If you do plan to boost it, get a B18a and put a set of pistons/rods in it...skip the eagle crank. That would be a lot better setup for boost

"Post Your Boosted B20" >>> https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2026738

I'll let that thread be my answer.

Also, on the topic, I'll be supercharging my CRVTEC build. 11.5:1 on 9psi. Should be fun.

Which engine? My high-comp S/C build? I'd stop it at about 8500, it should theoretically make power up there on 9psi with Skunk2 Pro3+ cams. The supercharger I'm using is one of the original Jackson Racing S/C kits for the Type-R Integra, even has the 9psi high-boost pulley.
