new car no vtec!
so i picked up a DA today and im trying to get used to a older car since i traded a 95 hatch for it. but i mean this one had a b16 and and coilovers i couldnt resist. so its pretty cold out and the car seems not to hit vtec. the guy said that obd0 cars do not hit vtec when cold just simply redline to 7 k and dip out. is this true or do i have a vtec problem or did the guy rip me off and put in a ls ecu? please give me some help.i want vtec
i think it is just the oil level its low and thats what i found on the search. he is telling me right now that he promises its the temp just from owning the car. well w/e ill put some oil in it.
In order for vtec to work you need a few things
Working Speedometer
Oil Pressure (Proper oil level)
Operating Temperature
If you have all those and it still doesn't work then I would look into the ECU or other things.

don't try and hit vtec until your engine is fully warmed up.

okay thanks but i just drove it around for like 15 min and then tried and nothing still. i just added 2 quarts of oil to it cuz it was low and still nothing so whats a good temp cuz its only like 40 degrees outside so im assuming it will take a bit? o and the oil light flashed after i did that but is always on any suggestions there too?

Let her warm up and try to hit vtec, as long as the car is warm you should still be able to hit vtec. If that doesn't work, check the ecu. If the ecu is fine it might be a wiring problem.

That's what I am thinking is wrong with my GSR swapped Civic, unfortunately. After I drove it and realized there is no vtec, I soldered the wire to the vtec solenoid, because of whatever reason, it was cut
So I take it for a ride, and still no vtec. I check the ecu, and it is an LS. I am happy that it was an easy fix, and buy a chipped p28, and... still no vtec
Jesus, I would rather replace the oil pump or something like that than do damn wiring/electrical diagnosis

there is no way to tell. I tried switching the solenoid from my Civic, since every post I found in the archives say they can be swapped between b and d series. Nope, the Goddamn third bolt hole on the flange doesn't line up
How could I have fried it when soldering the two wires together??

To test the solenoid run a 12v switch to it and switch it on while driving and see if vtec crosses over, if it doesnt then your switch is bad. If it does cross over then you have a wiring issue which isnt hard to fix either. Just run a direct wire from the ecu pinout to the vtec solenoid.

on top of everything else that was said, try taking the cap off of the vtec selenoid ...there's a little screen in there, spray it with brake cleaner and reassemble it and see how that works.
If that screen is too dirty, or "clogged," vtec won't engage.

wat?
Get your oil light off and it will work
LMAO at you beating your car when it's two quarts low on oil

Youve got some oil issues lol. After you put in two quarts and drove for 15 minutes the oil light came on? Where was the oil level at?
If it burned 2 quarts in 15 minutes, you definitely have problems.

I tried this. I took it off, and the screen was mint. I sprayed it down with brake cleaner and let it sit anyway since it was off, and put it back on and it didn't help.
I'll try running a switch and wire to the solenoid sometime. It's not my DD thank God, because I also have a coolant issue to diagnose and fix
