Default HELP!!!!! I have an ECU Problem Im sure someone here has the know how to help!!!!

Basically , I have a 92' 4 wheel steer body with an 95' H22A1 engine/manual tranny and I am having alot of electrical issues , I dont know what ECU I should use and have been told multiple things by so called experts , Some have said that you can keep the non-vtec ecu and wire in the vtec , another said all you need is the 95' Vtec Ecu and the 4WS has its own computer in the trunk and it doesnt need to run to the Ecu for any signal at all so things would be fine. At this point Im frusterated and lost if anyone can help that would be amazing!!!!!!

(THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO WHAT SOMEONE ASKED ME TO ELABORATE ON)
Well , what the car is doing is going basically into Limp mode , the check engine light comes on then when i cycle the key in the ingnition it will go out , and another light will come on like the 4ws and it stops working the engine itself i can tell is in great running order i have bolt on add ons , ( intake manifold, cold air , high flow cat , basically full exhaust , headers ) but your right the V-tec isnt kicking in but the car will start to run and it will even drive for a while then about 5 mins after running it will start decelatrating and when i throttle up it will just bog down and what to die thats when the crap hits the fan persay. I have two different Honda guys here in my town offering advice to work on it but i really dont know witch one has the knowledge to pull this off. if i need to go more in depth on anything to help out let me know .

If u are running a h22....u need to have an ecu with h22 basemaps, like the p13.As far as the non Vtec ecu....u cannot wire up the vtec to them....its impossible. It will work to run your car,but w/o vtec.

Please elaborate on the electrical problems that u are having.

You can modify non-VTEC ecus to add the circuitry for VTEC, and it will indeed work.

He described his problem, and it has to do with the 4ws.

All I know is that 4ws ecus are marked differently, I'm not sure if there is any functional difference or anything though, so I cannot tell you what to do. Be sure to use a p13 in the end though.

Sorry, I should have said its impossible with out modifying the ecu.And he said he is having alot of electrical issues, then asks about the the 4ws& ecu....not that he was having problems with the 4ws......

.but I have the exact same set up that you are having problems with....a 93 si w a jdm h22 swap....I just use the jdm p13 that I bought w the swap and have had no problems.Whats going on with your car exactly? Obiously u have no vtec....but besides that.

Good link matt.

According to two people that I would call reputable in that linked thread, it is marked differently, but functions the same.

Do you have a check engine light on after startup?

The light is supposed to come on when you first turn the key to II (on). It should then go off. If you have a problem, it will stay on or come back on again after driving.

You can also pull codes from the 4ws computer, search the archives on here for instructions on that.

The check engine light comes on after running about 5 mins, and then it starts doing that studder thing i described, its very confusioning i just dont know if the 4ws ties into the ECU and if it does do i need to be looking for a Manual VTEC 4WS ECU , and have they even made those, or is the 4WS operating soully on its own and has its independent computer not needing any relay from the ECU these are the main concerns of mine///////

The 4WS is its own unit. The problem is that you are running the wrong ECU. My 93 4WS lude is running a non 4WS ECU without problem. When the 4WS light comes on it is a problem with the system itself (look at wstef's write up on how to solve the common solder problem which solved my 4WS issue). I noticed that my 4WS would work fine until it started to get hotter out then the light would come on and my 4WS would stop working. Since I re-did the solders on the 4WS computer it has run flawlessly. I ran the H23 ECU in my F22 Accord for 5 minutes when I was trying to trouble shoot a wiring issue that I had and it ran the F22 but not correctly (I just used it to make sure the ECU was not fried). Run a P13 and the motor will run the way it should. Then check the 4WS but I do not know how long you have had the car and whether the system worked before you started driving it or not. Hope this helped good luck.
