)untuned stock sohc turbo!
im buying a swap soon and want to have alittle fun with my SOHC d16 :D im planning on throwing on a friends turbo kit, i belive he bought it off ebay and no longer use's it. i dont plan on tuning this car, or really beating on it. well, maybe here and there. what basic stuff do i need (better injectors?) to make it some what more reliable. and im assuming 4-5 pounds of boost will be fine? like i said im looking for a way to blow my motor... OVER TIME. not right away :D some sohc fun :D
4-5 pounds is very safe...but you still need some form of fuel management...
you are like 5 minutes from our shop...stop in and I can help get you in the right direction...i promise that as soon as you feel boost, you always want more, might as well be prepared.

Yeah, just an FMU is a good start if you don't really care about the motor. You can manually retard the timing too a bit and that mite help. If you don't care for the motor, you could do those 2 and probably get away with a little more boost for quite awhile. I have a friend who boosted a bone stock y7 with absolutely nothing besides manually retarding the timing and it ran for probably 3 months with him beating the hell out of it at 9lbs on a greddy kit before he finally blew the headgasket.

why would u need a fuel pump and a fmu i though an fmu put more fuel in the injectors at higher boost, isnt that the same thing as a fule pump, i would run 7psi and buy an aftermarket ecu plugin like the ones they give you with the turbonetics kit if u can get one of those youll be safe as sound
hey are those ebay kits any good anyways

no an fmu is not the same as a fuel pump, the fmu is a fuel management unit, it controls the amount of fuel going into the cylinders, you cans say it controls the fuel pump, so basically it makes the fuel pump work A LOT harder, which the factory pump cant handle, hence the reason for an upgraded fuel pump. an fmu+fuelpump set up dosent need an aftermarket ecu. its a good simple reliable set up perfect for low boost/budget applications imo.

i have had mine for about 5-6months and it is running real good no oil in the charge pipes it is clean dry no oil burning. Really good turbo just make sure u get a oil restrictor
is a must for them a .040" is what the oil hole is supposed to be u can make your own. If
u can if not u can buy them off eBay. the only reason they go bad is because people are cheap and cant buy the oil ristrictor and don't do it right way and the turbo blow the seals and it starts burning oil and that why people call them garbage.

an FMU raises thefuel the engine needs by ramping the hell out of the fuelpressure. the xx:1 number is pounds of fuel per pound of boost. and the bigger pump is needed to keep up with that demand.
as schister said. heed xenocron's advice.
