sohc turbo. regret it?
Anyone go with a sohc turbo set up and regret it? I just swapped out my tired old d15 for a z6 motor trans and ecu. After wheels and suspension i am going to get a turbo set up. Anyone regret boostin the sohc instead of getting a swap????? If so why?

Well, my SOHC has 400whp, so I don't regret anything...
Actually, that's more power than I wanted. I maxed out my intercooler so I just run 15psi on the street.

NO REGRETS!Im into my d15b7 $1200
that includes vtec head (d16y8
y8 mani
ex/si trans
act 6puk clutch
small 16g turbo
arp head studs
hondata
and make 215whp@12psi
$1200 is alot cheaper, than $3000 for 150whp gsr swap..
Plus alls the sohc needs is pistons&rods to make 300whp

Re: sohc turbo. regret it? (vtaaakkkk!!!)
LOL these are all the the reasons why i decided to go this route. I was thinking to my self "hmmmm. blow a tranny in a sohc turbo set up.... 100-150 dollars., blow a tranny in a dohc turbo set up 500-900 dollars. I payed 320 dollars for a z6 motor tranny and ecu. its got 120k on it but its still boostable. i figure 220whp on the stock motor will definetly hold me over till i build a pistons and rods block on the side.

although im not to thrilled with the d-series trans, or there non equal length axles.
just fucked up my 2nd gear again.. its a bit hard to get it inbto the next gear when taking it to redline on the d-series trannies.

When did you hit those numbers?

Re: sohc turbo. regret it? (boostincoupe)
Don't worry, I'll have a nice ego-boosting thread up soon
Although I think I just hit the $10,000 mark for my motor/drivetrain setup, so it hasn't been cheap. I guess I'm the misfit in this thread.

Re: sohc turbo. regret it? (boostincoupe)
If you are going to do an inexpensive setup and do it once, then I think it would be worth it.
I had 3 d16z6 turbo setups and one built Z6. They were fun but I really wish I had just gone B series turbo after I felt then need to upgrade the first turbo setup. To each his own though

Like everyone else says. They're cheap and pretty fast for what they are.
Plus the advantage of pickup up spare motors/parts for dirt cheap.
You can hit 250whp pretty reliabely on a stock block D16Z6.
No regrets of my past sohc turbo setups.

dyno sheet? you "maxed out" your intercooler?
also
d series turbo definately better than a b series swap.
but if you want more power (like me) you'll be thinking of a turbo b series

I put 125 miles a day on my z6 turbo 4 door every day, alot of fun to drive and pretty reliable.

Re: sohc turbo. regret it? (platinum00)
i regret getting ride of it.......less than 600 into the turbo kit on a y7 and it was able to keep up with h22 swapped preludes at just 5lbs out of a tdo5.
