How do i tell what ecu my car is running?
Thats what i was afraid of.. the guy that sold me my car told me that the ecu that is in the car was the vtec ecu and that the extra stock one was the ls ecu and wouldn't activate the vtec.. but for 200 extra he'd throw in the vtec ecu... the problem is the vtec ecu that s in it doesn't have a sticker where the ls ecu does... but it is black in color does that help??? any other ways to tell??
well simply look on the side of the ecu box..there should be a set of numbers ..look for things like p13 p28 etc..thats prob the only way ull be able to tell what ecu u got/....what motor is it for?
well does that ecy let you hit vtec? if the ecu that doesnt have the sticker allows you to hit vtec the my guess is that it's a p28..almost everyone has them..i got a jdm h22a into a eG hatchy and that one sports a p28 too...my guess is you got that..but what motor u got?
ive got the b18a1 the the ls motor out of a 1st gen acura the head is a gsr head if that helps and lastly i don't know what vtec is exactly everyone says that it will let you hit vtec at 7800 rpms or somthing like that but i don't know what im looking for could anyone explain what im looking for??

Thats what i was asking in one of my other questions.. i don't know what to look for. What does vtec do exactly and how do i have to drive it to get to vtec??
your ecu should be at your pass. side kick panel behind the carpet. most of the time vtec is right around 5-6k rpm for a stock ecu. so drive past those rpm's and you should here the exhaust get louder and feel vtec kick in, its kind of hard to explain. but it should be noticeable just pay attention after those rpm's. if you dont feel or notice anything vtec is most likely not engaging or you might not be able to notice it but you SHOULD.
Yah i know where the ecu is and what to look for as in ecu number on the side but its the vtec feeling i don' tknow what to look for but i'll check it out tommarrow and see if i can tell thanks man
Ok, here's what you do...
Take out the ECU and put it somewhere wher you can remove screws. While looking at the ECU from the top there will be 5 screw (one in each corner and a middle one). There's also 5 on the other side (bottom) but you do not need to remove these. After you remove the 5 screws, the top plate should come off pretty easily. Once removed, look at the plugs that were covered by the plate, and there will be another bar code. The three seperate letter/numbers in the middle of the rest of the numbers/letters will be what the ecu is. If that is removed as well, then seems as if someone was being shady with the ecu at one time...I'll try to get some pics of how it looks, but don't count on it, lol.
