Default transmission/clutch problem.. please help

ok so my friend is having a problem. he turns on his car and puts it into gear with no problems but it wont go anywhere...its as if its in neutral. can you guys please help. is it the clutch or flywheel, or is it just the axle that has popped out? thanks in advance!

can he feel the shifter and linkage actually connecting with the Tranny ?

If not then I hate to tell you , but his Dif probably went out and needs a new tranny . . but dont quote me.
