isthis my VSS
That looks like it, mine is different. If it's sitting on the backside close to the firewall under the intake manifold then it should be it. break the two bolts and pull it out, it should have a few gears and designed like a cone shape as it goes down.

i know the speed sensor is required, my electronic speed sensor is connected, but the VSS on my tranny is missing thus my speedo isn't working...does this mean i have no vtec...

That's an electronic VSS on your picture. If you look in the back of your cluster or if there's a speedometer cable coming out of your firewall, then you need to use your old vss (cable actuated). The speedo cable will plug to it and you'll have Vtec in no time. If you don't want to replace your electronic vss or you don't have your old tranny, then you can also replace your cluster with a jdm one or any cluster that uses an electronic vss.
i parted out the auto tranny today but kept the entire speed sensor assembly...
next question is, will the one from my B18a auto fit into my B16a manual?

Not sure about auto/manual vss interchangeability...you can always try since it just plugs right in..if it doesnt fit then it wont..I do have a cable vss for a b-series laying in my garage somewhere...but have to really look for it..or they sell em here too on HT for about $50 shipped...used to be $100 years ago..
