How? These engines are rev-limited at 8200 rpm. Did you mis-shift and mechanically over-rev it??

The engine could take a hit at 9000 RPM....but you're in the danger zone at that point. Anything above red-line can be potentially problematic if done on a consistent basis.

On the B/H/D series you would have to do a valve adjustment as it does occasionally throw it off specs (pending how high the rev was). The tolerances on the K series is different and may occur if it gets over-revved too frequently. Some members on here have already blown their motors by over revving but that was more extreme. Like Rico stated your in the "danger-zone" at those rpms.

So you went straight to 9000 rpm on straight acceleration on a car with an 8200 RPM rev limit?? How'd you pull that off?

Even if you have the Hondata reflash the rev limiter is at 8600rpm

OEM tachs are off in the upper rpm ranges. They are not as accurate as most think.

Well mine isn't off. I've bounced the rev-limiter a couple times and when I looked at it....it was just over 8000.....right at about 8200....as Honda claimed.

Even if they weren't off....i'm pretty sure nobody here has been able to just shoot straight up to 9000 on their tach just by straight-line acceleration alone.

dude, just admit you mis-shifted. it looks more ridiculous if you try and say that your rev limiter doesnt work or something.

Lol, if you really didn't miss shift and your rev limiter really doesn't work correctly. Why don't you just take it to the dealer and show them? Instead of wondering on a message board if you damaged anything.

I suggest you take your car back the dealer, it sounds like your Tach needs to be adjusted (if it is possible), or replaced.

Honestly, the ECU is programmed to shut the fuel off at 8,200 rpm, and the ECU does not use the tach to determine your rpm. The ECU feeds the data to the tachometer to provide a visual representation of your RPM. This all controlled by a program. There is no way to disable or change that program unless you reflash the ECU with a custom program. So, regarless of what the Tach say's, I am certain your not exceeding 8,200 rpm before your fuel the cut. This leads me to believe the tach is faulty.

Perhaps it was needle bounce? I guess if the needle is moving fast enough it might go higher than 8,200 rpm from inertia.

I would get it checked.

Even running the motor to 8,200 all the time is not the greatest either. You will not blow the motor, but you are creating excessive wear.

Good Luck

^^^^ all oem tachs are off in the high rpm's like I said before. The higher the readout the more it will be off.

not only has it past the rev limiter and hit 9000 on sraight acc ,it has also failed on me while in neutral. normaly it wont go past 4000-5000 rpm but a hand full of times it has. you tell me whats going on besides the driver

If you're in neutral and moving forward at all....even at 1mph....the stationary rev-limiter won't activate. It will just shoot straight to red-line.

You may be right, but the fact is he claims to have VISUALLY seen the tach hit 9000 RPM while straight-up just accelerating. Which i'm confident NOBODY has been able to do in this forum. Even a rev bounce from 8200 to 9K would be highly unlikely. But i haven't mis-shifted at such a high RPM so I guess it could be possible.....although the OP claims to NOT have mis-shifted. That makes this thread puzzling.

If I try and right when i shift I leave my foot on the gas slightly and push off of it (the only way i can describe it) I can make the needle go slightly higher it may not be 9k, but its damn close to 8700-8800.....Its just because some tachs are off more than others....my old EP3 was WAY worse.

I see where you're coming from. Sometimes when I shift right at the limit the needle seems to jump slightly higher. But around 8400-8500 for me.
