Default Spuddering at 1500rpm - D16y8 - desperate for advice

Hello. I've done a few searches and haven't found anything that really helps me solve this mystery.

1999 Honda Civic EX - D16y8 - 5 Speed Manual w/ 140,000mi.

Whenever the car is at idle, whenever you press the gas accelerator down very slowly, the car will rev up normally to 1500rpm. Once it hits 1500rpm the car will spudder and act like its hitting a rev limiter or something. If you continue to press the peddle, it will eventually rev up past 1500 but there is almost no way to get it to rev between 1500-2500.

This is also a problem while driving. Whenever you come out of gear, if you aren't giving it more than 25% throttle it will studder a couple seconds then jump like a newb is trying to learn how to drive stick shift or something. So you pretty much have to drive it hard off the line. Whenever you want to maintain speed is where its annoying because you either are accelerating or decelerating. There is no "In- Between". If you try and find an idling speed on the pedal, it will not maintain. Either your slowing down, or having to speed back up. Even the cruise control doesn't maintain its speed right.

I've reset the cpu by pulling the battery, checked plugs, connectors, etc. I'm at a loss at what exactly it could be. Any ideas before I start replacing parts, or get a mechanic to look at it (which I can't afford)?

I have the exact problem with my d16z6 with the same amount of miles and have been trying to find an answer (weird?). It seems to be a number of things maybe....fuel pump, fuel filter? dizzy, spark plugs, IACV, IAT, ect...

Do you have any CEL's? My car is throwing IAT and IACV so those are my concerns of the spuddering.

sounds like a VSS: vehicle speed sensor.

I had weird drivability issues when mine was bad, it just sounds like your having similar issues

tps sensor, fo sho. Make sure its set to .45 volts at idle. I fixed the exact same problem in my car like a week ago. I mean exact, when i read it i thought it was my old post. search on here its $65 shipped, or go to the junkyard. But first make sure yours is set correctly.

I would suspect either the TPS sensor or the MAP sensor

Voltage at the MAP sensor signal wire with the key on and engine off should be about 2.80v.

Pop the cap off the distributor and check for corrosion. Happened to me once.
