d16y8 not picking up speed
Any help would be appreciated. I have a Ek hatch with d16y8. My car doesn't pick up speed when I'm on the highway in 5th gear at 60mph. When I fully throttle, speed increases slowly(slow slow), not the usual. And when I get off the highway and onto small streets, in first gear, when I step on it it does not pick up speed like how it did before I went on the highway. HELP PLEASE!!!!

Re: d16y8 not picking up speed
I have a 97 EX and it does the same thing.
The clutch is not slipping, it just accelerates extremely slow sometimes when you floor it. It does not bog like a carbed engine, you just floor it and nothing happens. Similar results when I am in 5th. Engine has 61,000 miles does not drive like it jumped time.
Is this engine in its stock form just a total gutless pig?
I was looking to do some upgrades like exhaust, intake manifold, and air intake, but wonder if there is something else going on that needs to be addressed before I upgrade?

It has an aftermarket header and exhaust, k&n air intake. that's all.

Re: d16y8 not picking up speed
Forgot to include what I was replying to, sorry.
All stock,, no mods, just a tuneup from the dealership before I bought it.
Would playing with the timing do anything?
Not really looking to do any internal mods to the engine, just bolt ons, but looking at other replies about stock exhaust manifolds vs headers I am not sure there would be much improvement changing this. The stock piece does not look much different from the low end priced two piece headers I have seen.
I was considering a different intake or TB, but having difficulty finding any posts about these swaps for this engine. Also looking at Maxbore working on the stock TB. As I mentioned above I though about exhaust as that is usually a good way to free up power from a restricted engine. I am also thinking of a less restrictive muffler but the ones I hear on youtube and the street mostly seem obnoxious to me. Does high flow have to sound like big fart can?
Thanks for any advice or pointers you can offer.
