Default d16y8 rev limit

i got a d16y8 and ive heard a lot of different rev points
my tach goes to 6900 rpms
i heard lots of people say take it to 7100 or even 7400
where should i shift to get the most out of it w/o losing power?

on my y8 my vafc read 71** as my rev limit in neutral and i think i a lil higher when i was in gear but never really checked it (hit it a couple of times but on accident but not really sure, it felt a lil higher than 7100) i always shifted right before 7K like around 6800-6900

i used to think mine hit around 7200, but i just found out recently that i can shift at like 7400 w/o hitting the limiter and it doesnt feel like im losing any power

According to the tach in my 97 civic ex, it's set at 6900. I don't know, don't care. When I boost and dyno I'll still shift at 6900

the d16y8 rev limiter starts at 7200rpm if that answers your question...

Rev till you hit the limiter or untill you feel the power band drop, then you wut your limit is.

not smart, tachs aren't always 100% accurate :-\ Especially at higher RPMs

like for example, I've brought my D16Z6 to 8k on the tach a few times..but I doubt it could do that because as far as I know the ECU is normal and rev limiter is 7200, so obviously there's some tach error there - and wherever u shift around there u'll still be in the power band no problem..

Redline and rev-limit are two different things.

Right, redline is the safe place to stop and rev limit is for idiots that think their stock engine will keep getting more power as the revs go up.

for the y8 and the z6 the powerband peaks at 6600. Dont dare run it to the rev limiter. fuel cut at high RPMs = blown motor

wtf are you talking about. the rev limiter cuts off fuel so u get the bouncy tach. unless your downshifting and over rev, your not gonna blow a motor by hitting the rev limiter a bazillion times (figure of speech). so the powerband peaks out at 6600, some people take it further so when they shift they're in the appropriate rpms for that power. geeez.

Well, you can shift at the redline, still be in vtec range. Or you can go past the to the limiter, lose power, put extra wear on the engine. There's no point to going to the rev limiter, but like they said it's set at 7200.

6600: peak power
6900: redline
7200: limiter

No, I really doubt it's making power up there. It peaks at 6600 then starts losing power... If Honda engineered it to still be making power at that rpm, the redline would be higher...
