Default mini me

i know there have been many threads on this topic and i searched for it. but all the threads i came across where just problems with the swap or a d15 motor questions

i have a 98 coupe with the stock motor (d16y7) and i am doing the y8 swap. right now i have the new head and y8 intake mani. i know i need to get a vtec ecu but is it worth buying a p28 and a jumper harness (car is OBD2) or just buying an ex ecu? and what other parts do i need only to finish the project. i have asked friends and i keep getting different answers.

help is GREATLY appreciated. thank you

Youre gonna need an ECU from a 96-98 If you want it to be "plug and play" if you get one from a 99-00 youll need a Jumper harness.

EDIT: here is OBD2 pinouts to wire VTEC

ok i will probably get an ex ecu then because its cheaper and easier.

i was told i may need a new distributer and gaskit kit. is that true?

WELL YOUR GOING WITH A Y8 HEAD RIGHT? THEN EVERY THING SHOULD BE PLUG IN AND PLAY, AND IT'S BETTER TO GET THE OBD1 P28 ECU AND JUMPER, IT HAS LESS SENSORS AND LESS PROBS. AND AS FOR HEAD AS LONG AS YOU USING THE Y8 MANIFOLD YOU'LL BE OK. ALSO YOU HAVE TO WIRE UP THE VTEC. BUT YOU CAN FIND THE PIN OUTS AT THE TOP OF THIS FORM, IT'S BEEN A WHILE

so all you have to do it take off the head, put the new one on, wire up vtec and switch ecu's...

i thought it was more complicated then that

does any one know of a DIY thread of this swap

don't forget to remove the oil jet from your block before putting on the vtec head
