Racecar + Tow Vehicle + Trailer...Ahhhhh, the triad of debt is complete!
Well, as a present to myself for abstaining from all that is good in this world to study for medical school board exams, I ordered my trailer today. Now I have a reason to have a tow vehicle, and an excuse to take my racecar around. It's nothing fancy, but it suits my needs and budget. I picked up a two axle, open-deck, 16' flatbed with single axle brakes, a B.A.W. kit, and a brake controller for the truck (turns out it's pre-wired, but doesn't have the controller
). It was on sale too, and they're registering it for me for life. And get this, they offer gray metallic paint (which happens to match my Jeep). It was meant to be. I should have pictures in a couple of weeks. They had to order it and add some stuff.
Finally, I can focus on the good stuff...finishing the car and driving! Anyway, I just thought I'd share.

I got the car I got the trailer. I have nothing to tow with yet.
I'm gonna use my moms truck I guess for now.

cost of such a trailer?
The trailer was on sale for $1399 from $1599 for the next two weeks. This price was for a full, wooden, closed-deck flatbed. When I asked about the open, metal-deck version, I was surprised to find that it was $50 cheaper at $1349! And, it comes with more structural steel to keep the open deck design from flexing. The B.A.W. kit with battery, wiring, brake controller, and lifetime title added another $300. Ugh, that's the stuff that gets ya. But otherwise it already included other accessory you might want (front jack stand, spare, ramps, welded tie-downs all over, etc.). Oh, and I forgot to mention that it has the sloping rear end for low car clearance.
I checked all around my area for used trailers for the past month or so, but they were all selling for $1100-1200 for something comparable and many were 5+ years old. I was often tempted to just pick up one of the single axle, no brakes, generic flatbeds for $1000, but I would have regretted it immediately.
Hmm, I think I paid ~$1200 for my closed deck, dual axle, electric brake, lexan windscreen, with the tool chest in the front.
But then I had to buy the controller, and stabilizer bars, and tire wrap arounds (to secure the vehicle), and build the tire rack, repaint it, etc..
Just wait until you decide it's about time you get a second race car.

. I can get a nationally competitive race motor for the same price as a set of *insert popular JDM title here* wheels and tires for the ITR. Reason #1 that the R didn't become my track car.
