speaker replacement help
Good Morning all!! I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to remove the door speakers in my '96 H23. Do I have to remove the entire inside of the door? Also, there is a tension bar in the trunk that does not allow me to install speakers with a bigger magnet than the stock speakers, does anyone know a way to deal with that? Thanks!!

gotta take out the panel. i think you have to put the window down, take out the screws all around the panel, take out the window, door controls, the little triangle thing on the corner of the panel, and etc. and then jus pull up on it and
the speaker should be right there.

For the Door Speakers, there are four screws.
1) Inside the Door/Window Control Trim
2) On the Bottom Corner on the rear of the door.
3) On the Inside of the Door near the top.
4) In the Door Cup.
With a little force, you must be gentle, pull from the FRONT of the Door/Window Control Trim, it will pop out. Be careful it can break, so I don't recommend pulling from the Rear. Then Unplug the Connectors.
After remove all that, then pull on the bottom of the Door Panel. It might take a little force, but it will pop out. I can't remember if you have to take the Side Mirror Screw Covers off or not, but they just pop off if you do.. Otherwise, after pulling the Panel away from the door unhooking it, it must be pulled up as it over hangs into the window slit. I've pretty sure you can do it with the window up, but it might be easier with it down, and it will be easier with it down when reinstalling it.
The Door Speaker has three screws, remove them, and unplug it. If the speakers you have are to big, then you'll have to cut/trim the Speaker Cups so they'll fit.
For the Rear Deck Speakers, you need to get some Spacers. Go to a local Audio Store and they should have them. Just ask for Speaker Spacers, they should know what you're talking about.
And don't remove the tension bar, that makes your trunk work properly..

Did you already buy new speakers? From what I've been reading you need to find some thinner speakers to bolt in. I read one time what size speakers to buy, I can't seem to find the post now. I believe it was something like 6.5" X 2.2", but again, I'm not positive about the 2.2". There are some companies who make speakers in that size, but most are deeper.
If you already have the speakers, you could either buy a spacer, like someone else pointed out, or do what my previous owner did. He unclipped the tension bar and pulled it down a bit to clear the new speakers. He then wedged in some pieces of clothe between the speakers and the bar. I'm not a real fan of this, but but it does work. Although I'm not exactly pumping the power through the rears.
