Drag Racing and Gas prices time to own up.
I got to tallying up the cost of just getting to some of the races that are close to us here in the south east and about crapped myself. Having a gas burner I made the average about 11mpg hauling and totaled 12,326 miles to the destination and back to my house. Thats 1120 gallons of fuel and fuel at $3/gal (assuming it doesnt go up) thats $3360 just in fuel to get to the track. That doesnt include food, room, wear and tear on the vehicles, entry into the races, Race fuel, etc....

These are the ones posted, 3 are somewhat local and I even forgot to add in 1. This is a pretty big expense, more than what I had realized. I doubt that we will make it to all 13 or so but, anyone else feeling my pain??????????

I bet its double and more for a racer like Tony coming from Texas.
If a west coast car followed the NOPI schedule, it would do 3 East Coast swings, hitting up 2 races per trip, which are back to back. Heading back home during the 3 week break between (2back to back)races. Havent calculated it yet, but having back to back races knocks 2 events out in 1 trip and saves on gas. Just have to stay out there a little longer.

I would imagine that some get some help from sponsors no?? I guess you guys could probably tach on another $2g's or so. There is no way I could stay a week for a back to back race, not to mention my job wouldnt be there when I got back.
A Coast to Coast trip could run about $2000-4000 depending on what your using to get out there, how much you spend to eat, where you stay at, howmany people go along on the trip, etc. Its no pocket change thats for sure.
Other than Pro guys and sportsmans thats gone along on rigs with Pro guys, I think theres less than 10 racers that have gone from East to West and vice versa the last few years. (not counting Texas guys.

rule of thumb always in the back of my mind for racing travel expenses has been $1k a race -- averaged over most of the season that is what it generally worked out for me -- including diesel, hotel, food, entry fee, beer, etc, etc
any trip out west for us from Orlando (west = past texas) will average about $2k
just a cost of doing what we love

any way you look at it, if you travel out of state you are gonna spend a weeks pay. That is for most of us low paid persons.
Would you guys be down if you were to pay $10,000 a piece to have the transportation of your racecar paid for a complete 8 race series?
I may have an inside line for the West coast guys to transport maybe 6-8 cars to follow an East coast swing in the beginning and part of a West coast swing at the end.

The least I ever spent was about $500 an event, and I have a Truck that gets about 17 MPG pulling my trailer. I live in MD so I am closer then many people, like Rota said get used to traveling if you want to drag race.
well for long distance and i say long distance, like, moroso or if I went to MD or or NJ, id stay in the enclosed f i borrowed it from a friend, ill be a little uncomfortable to get the experience of traveling to those vents.

It is good for you guys to start budgeting and thinking about this now. That will help you be more prepared when it comes time to race. Get together with some friends and figure out how you can haul more than one car and split some costs.
I sure wish my truck would get 17mpg pulling!! That must be a Cummins
My Duramax gets 9-11 with my lead foot, and our V10 Ford got closer to 6-8 LOL. I recommend everyone doing a detailed cost analysis now.
Ron, that is a killer idea and needs to be done. Every year someone talks about it but no one ever has the $10K all at once to put up for the race. Can these guys be setup to split that in half? $5K for the 1st 4 races, $5K for the second 4???
I'm buying a larger trailer to haul another car next year, so if anyone near us needs a ride I will more than likely have an extra spot. I also will have a 24 foot enclosed available that you guys are more than welcome to use...you'll just have to have the tow vehicle.

Whoops called you Ron...I guess this is Ed
I think that would be easier to swallow for most teams if the transportation was split. $5K ain't so bad.
