Default Hondata S200

I am looking to get the hondata s200. I won't have the ROM editor or the programmer right away, so I have to take it somewhere, and my friends dad works at a dealership that can do it for less than a shop. I want to go N/A with the motor. What should I look for to get the most out of this system when it comes to fuel/ignition mapping, VTEC control etc? I would like to know a little more than what the hondata website says before I tune this system.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

S200 is old, dated, and expensive for what you get.

You're gonna have a hard time effectively tuning this thing yourself, and a car dealership isn't gonna have the ROM Editor permission. It requires a special box with a special serial # and a download you can only get at if you have bought the above stated.

My brother and I have this setup right now in his civic, and don't really need it. We'd be willing to trade plus $$ for a regular s200 box for it and the ROMulator, if you're interested. I have the software and password and all as well.

most out of the system would be taking it to a capable tuner....

I hear that the s200 is dated. And if a dealership isn't able to do it, ok. I would like to tune it myself, I prefer to do my own work. The only problem is, I have never done anything to to that degree. So I don't know what all the stats, graphs, and charts mean when it comes to dataloging, and/or where they should all be for peak performance. Though the s300 is a bit more, I have thought about that.

how much for the s200 system, ROMulator and pass?

Neptune RTP for $400

Plug and play into a chipped ECU, Everything you need to program it yourself is included. No silly extra costs for software, boost tables, etc.
It's pretty comparable to S300 (also an in-ECU realtime emulator w/USB).

All you'd need to DIY is a laptop and a wideband oxygen sensor.

I'll have to read up on the Neptune RTP a little more. But if it is that easy DIY, I can fined value in that.

It's going to be about as easy as it gets. Honda ECU working underneath (like all the other OBD1 ROM editors), with 1-cable USB programming and logging. Lots of support on the hrtuning.com forums.

I was a complete noob to tuning early this summer and I got by pretty well.

Reading reading reading is a good place to start. If you're interested you can pull it off.

Beyond that you need a tuning program, a way to monitor your car's AFRs, and a laptop. A friend to help with street tuning is also a plus.

i wish i had a friend that i could trust enough to drive my car, lol. That would make street tuning much easier for me.

also, before you get your tuning program that you want to use, be sure that your laptop has the memory and processor speed to handle it.

I have friends, and givin where I work, I know people that have done similar things. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to get someone to help me, but a lot of the people I know have no interest in taking the time to explain what they are doing or what anything means. They are more the "u can pay me to do what I know, or u can do it yourself and risk really ******* it up." no one seems to be into tuning cars/helping others tune their cars for the fun and love of doing it, it is all about how much people are willing to pay for it. Thats life.

Its not too bad. I helped tune my buddies 400hp gsx over the summer. I went in with no tuning experience. Just need the wideband, and laptop. the hardest part was setting the longterm fuel trims to the correcet level. WOT tunes were easy to do since you shoot for a targeted A/F ration in closed loop. If you just be extra careful when you are making changes in timing and stuff, you'll be fine.
