Need Expert: *Exactly* where are the weight differences in stripped CX vs Si EG shell?
Hi folks,
I have read all the archives, and now I need a little more detailed info. Here's the question: IF you had two completely guuted EG shells - one CX and one Si, where would the weight differences come from? Assume completely gutted means no AC, no suspension, sound deadening, steering rack, brake booster /cylinder, etc. Literally two stripped shells sitting there.
I am asking because in the class I want to race in I am allowed to "convert" the car to CX status if I can concretely pinpoint the differences.
So does the weight come from thicker sheetmetal, additional tack welded reinforcements, thicker material around the roof? Any informed info would be greatly appreciated.

Si has a sunroof , other than that a a slightly larger gas tank and rear disk
with no acc. or sound dead material they are identical
shell for shell the sunroof would be the only diff
my 93 Si fully gutted , little under half tank gas B-series swap 2180 lbs
I still have my sunroof , thats it
Hx wheels 11.2 lbs each , no tar,ac,cruise,power steering,carpet,spare,headliner
the ONLY thing I have left is the sunroof which is estimated at 50+ lbs.
we'll find out in a few weeks when i drop it down

That might help, unless you've already read it.
I would have to imagine that the shell of an Si would have some sort of extra bracing to accomidate the moonroof.
The moon roof itself with the slider/motor **** is prewtty damn heavy. I've picked up a unti removed from a pal's 1992 Si hatch and it weighs a good bit.
He hasn't put it on a scale yet, but I imagine 40lbs. at least.
Read that link so I don't have to go into all of the mai differences again.
