d16z6 inital timing TDC and Comp Cam 59300 problem
i have a d16z6 motor that im basicaly done building, i was trying to set the inital timing so. i set the # 1 cylinder to TDC (4-3-2-1) and that went fine. when i put the camshaft in the head and had the hash marks (on the cam gear) where they were supposed to be (aftermarket OBX cam gear, its adjuatable thats about the only difference. same size & tooth count). so the cam is at zero and the #1 cylinder is at TDC. and when i tried to put the distributor in (after lining up the inside of the distributor cap so it faced the #1) the part that meets with the cam from the dizzy itself and the end of the cam did not line up.
ive followed the instructions to the letter in my HAYNES/HELMS but i think im still missing something....????
-line up motor to TDC #1 cylinder
-line up camshaft/cam gear to that they read 0 (0 being the number at the top of the cam gear degrees)
-line up dizzy so that its facing the #1 cylinder on the plug wires
and thats that???? right?
*****i just kind of thought of answer right now that might not work but here is a go****
if i was to take the rocker arm/LMA assembly out and expose the camshaft/gear. i could move it freely and line up the inside of the distributor exactly with the #1 spark plug wire. take the camshaft/gear line them up with the end of the dizzy that gets inserted to the cam (that is now definatly at the #1 clyinder). that would have to get you right....right? because the dizzy would be at #1 the block would be at #1 so the camshaft/gear would have no choice but to be in line with them (unless installed incorrectly, but there is only ONE way for the cam gear to line up with the shaft )please help! i know im probaly missing the obvious
