Default Finally my car is running right!!! Woohoo!

I'd just like to say thanks for all the help here on HT. For the injector issues, boost controller help, etc.

After being under the car, I finally got my exhaust leak fixed. It was a major one....the turbine housing was separated from the downpipe about half an inch! That thing was loud.

After I fixed that, the car spools so much faster and is so much quieter. It blows off even driving normally in all gears.

Unfortunately, now that I'm actually boosting, my EGT's are much higher in normal driving. At 80mph in 5th gear, it's at about 1420F. How's that? When I start to boost, it drops to 1400F and stays for about 3 seconds before rising easily past 1500F. Then I let off.

That's only at 8psi as well. When the BC is set at 12psi, the temp climbs instantly. Would an MSD BTM solve this? And no, I'm not getting a standalone.

Wow, you're car's running right ! What's that feel like ??? heh heh

Are you on stock distr. timing ? Try setting the BTM to a full 1 degree per psi to 8. 1.25 if you go to 12 psi

Hehe....yup, it's finally running right. Well, I dunno about "boosting right" but it's real smooth right now with no bogging or hesitation.

I don't have the BTM right now so it's stuck on stock timing right now. I spoke to several people (pro tuners and regulars) and they say that even 1600F is fine if you're tuned correctly. You just can't stay there forever. I haven't taken it that high just yet though.

Who said gettin out of the darkside??? Not I.

And Etown? Yeah rite...not for a while since I'm so broke. Soon enough guys....soon enough.

What's your setup? what size injectors are you running and what FMU disk do you have? I run 310cc with an 8:1 FMU disk and at 10psi, my EGT's are approx. 1325-1350. At 9 psi my egt's are approx 1250-1300. My low boost settings are kept at 7psi and my egt's are ~1200. It's rich but safe for now. My timing is static at 15btdc.
I never go above 1350.

My setup is stock b18b teg with dragIII.

...at 80mph, my egt's are at 1375-1390max. it drops and stays low while boosting.
With my 240cc my egt's were 1420 at 80mph.

Wow, I like your temps. I'm running a stock FPR, S-AFC, and 440's. It's a trick that my tuner uses all the time. It nets him great times and reliable motors, but I just get so worried because all the honda-tech'ers are running much lower temps.

I have forged pistons and rods, a JE blockguard, stock sleeves bored to 81.5mm. The crank is cut, polished, and balanced. The head has Crower 402T cams with the corresponding valve springs/retainers.

Is there any way to tune more fuel into your setup? Try to get your egt's to about 1400max. What timing are you running? I was running 13-13.5 btdc, now i'm at 14.5-15 btdc. My egt's went down by approx 25-30 degrees F by increasing my timing 1 point.

I'm using the Westech EGT guage and probe. If you are into looks, then this one is not for you, however, if you are going for function then it's rather good.

Autometer EGT is pretty good for the price, but Greddy, Apex, HKS are much better but highly priced.

Does that come with the probe also? That's a good price if it does, but it doesn't look too good, but if it comes with the probe... I don't care.

the probe is extra. you're looking at $90 for probe, light, and guage.

Where is your probe located? Temperature readings will vary depending on the location of the probe. I don't know how much it will vary by, but I am pretty sure it won't be significant. I am using the Autometer competition probe (5244) and I just have to assume it's pretty accurate. It's at least consistent, showing 1200 degrees cruising at 75mph.

My probe is right at the manifold basically where all the runners collect on the Drag manifold.

My timing is set to slightly retarded, but I haven't checked yet. Hehe. I'll make sure I check that.

My probe is 2 inches away from the exhaust port, before the turbo on runner 3;
DragIII manifold. I've compared runner's 3 and 4 (same location--2" away from exh. port) and the readings were the same.

I've also hooked up my friends Greddy EGT guage/probe to compare readings with my guage/probe and the readings were the same. The greddy responds a tad faster though.
