Those anyone knows wich are the best cams for the D16Y8 without changing the valve springs??
Is there an especific brand?? And wich are the most agressive ones...

 

someone just asked the same question a few hours back except he meant for b series..but i would still say skunk2

you should NEVER get high performance cams without replacing BOTH valvesprings and retainers, unless you think valve float and coil bind are your new best friends.

spend the money and do it right.

 

i've heard good stuff about the zex cam...crower springs and retainers will work or another brand, your pick.

do it right, or you'll do it again anyway.

 

crower, buddy club or skunk 2...I wouldnt get cams installed without valve retainers or springs personally.

Ah if he's rocking something not that aggressive, like a s2 stage 1 cam, he can probably get away with it, easy.

Though other than that I'd recommend getting a new valvespring setup.

Cams? D series? Surely, you jest.

The best bang for your buck mod for a D series is a B series.

Bring it on, D series nerds.


But to answer your question, why are you cheaping out on springs? Well, either way, if you get a mild street cam like a skunk stage 1, you should be able to retain your factory springs if you dont rev higher than factory.

However, for reliability and repeatability, get the springs. Just make sure the springs aren't too stiff. It's a timing BELT motor, and I'm assuming it's for street use.
