Default need opinions on ZX-7's

hey guys. im looking for a winter proect, and i came across a ZX7. for me this bike is love at first sight. ive been in love with these bikes for years now, i think its because they remind me so much of the older WSB's. anyway, the bikes have alot of power but are also pretty heavy (440lbs). most of the weight can be cut down by switching the front to a zx-10r front (almost 30LBS). they are known to handle amazing and be very solid. i really dont mind the weight slowing me down, cause im not gonna go nuts on the street.
i was wondering if anyone here has had experience riding one. any inputs will be appericiated.
thanks in advance

Unless there's something wrong with the current front end, I wouldn't go switching it out. What year bike are you looking at...the ZX7 or ZX7R?

The first three gears are a bit clunky and there's a typical rattle coming from the engine, but those just add character.

its a biiig bike and its got a funky riding position. power isn't anything to write home about.

but the front end on the late 90's zx7r is a thing of beauty. i wouldn't swap it out for nothin! as its the best thing about the bike.

I might be trading my F3 for a '97 7r in the next week, I'll let you know what I think of the bike if this goes through...

Yea man, I'm looking forward to this. I've always liked the 7r's, but have been anti-Kawi so never really considered getting one. Then a guy offered a trade and now I really hope this works out. I just hope the bike doesn't turn out to be a piece when I check it out tomorrow....

I dunno bout 25 lbs. but the performance gain with the better forks and brakes makes it a have to kinda deal for serious riding habbits
theory being that all the power you make must be applied in a controlled and tuneable manner to access the machines full potential.
the better quality suspension pieces just make this task way way easier

Haha, the anti-kawi is just my hard-headed self listening to people bash Kawi's (same goes for the Suzukis). The 7r was actually the first streetbike that I really noticed and wanted.

Anyways, I'm going to check the bike out tomorrow and hopefully it'll work out.

Wow, that is one clean 7r...

Too bad the one I'm looking at needs some bodywork and paint, and who knows what else. But I have a thing for the 7r, and hopefully over winter I can come up with the $$$ to build one up right. It'll be next weekend or the week after if I decide to pick said bike up, I'll post some pics if I go through with the deal.

Oh, and the bike is "chromed out"... what do ya'll think of the trade?

Thanks man . Yea I have just as much fun building and wrenching on bikes as I do riding them. Now that I've built mine up to where I want it, I have the itch to get something new to work on.

I put mine up for sale, and the zx7r just came up. I wasn't really looking for any new bike in particular, but I love the 7r and I've been considering the possibilities with that bike. Although, I'll probably end up going with a v-twin (SV1000 or RC if i can find one). Too many ideas, not enough cash...

I had a 95 zx7 and absolutely loved it. Its was heavy but its the best handling bike Ive been on and wilh a full muzzy system its sounds unbelievable. But the 2nd gear gave out and I sold......its not a great stunting bike at all that another reason I sold. Shes a beast
