Default Installing Power Steering ***Opinion***

I know most of you guys don't like power steering, however, I need my power steering. I'm looking to buying an eg or ek. All the cars that I've looked at don't have power steering and it's making it a freaking hard decision.

It's either get a manual without p/s or get a auto with ps. I enjoy driving manual, but I dunno how much i will enjoy it without p/s.

If i was to get a eg or ek without p/s, is it pretty cheap to get this option?

Thanks for all your help

u have to get an entire steering rack if u swap over to power from manual, not to mention the pump, hoses, etc... it would be a huge PITA to swap.

You will get used to not having power steering, it sounds hard at first but really isn't and is a great excercise.

I have ps on my 99Si and no ps on the VX. And the feel is so weird when im driving the Si, the car just feels twitchy everytime i take a turn.... Is nice when you are parked still and need to turn the steering wheel but when you are moving the feel is the same as if you didn't have any.

Good luck on your decision.

I was going to make a new thread about power steering and peoples opinions on it, but since this is made, why not revive it!

So.. I have a 92 civic cx.. and there is no powersteer on it.. I'm used to it and all but I kinda miss the ps.

Pros: Great response, easy to dodge cars while going fast.
Cons: Hard to turn while driving slow and its kind of dangerous when you need to make a fast turn

I want to get it but I heard you lose ~1-5whp, I think thats a rumor because there is no proof that you actually do lose whp(correct me if I'm wrong). No one has dyno'ed with and without ps just to see it, I think you just lose some throttle response.

Lets hear some Pros, Cons and Opinions!

You need to do more research, because you're seriously spreading misinformation. On one ITR DYNO tested, there was a 7whp difference. Besides the weight difference of losing all the PS-associated crap, that's a VERY significant power difference.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Philly_NBP_R &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Here's what I did:
1. Remove all fluid from system (let pump pump out fluid into a closed container) leaving a little bit to lubricate the system.
2. Remove Pump and cast iron brackets (9.5 lbs)
3. Hook PS line that used to go to pump up to the bottom nipple of the fluid reservoir (sp?).
4. Leave the line that goes to the cooler in the front of the car also hooked to the reservoir.
5. Drive away knowing you are making as much as 7 more whp w/out power steering:

</TD></TR></TABLE>

Beyond that, the stock base model Civic manual racks are almost like a power steering rack in their ease of use. An enormous con is that they also have a retardedly large steering rack ratio, so you have to turn the steering wheel A LOT to get a particular amount of actual vehicle turning. The solution to that is an Integra rack, but all 'teg racks ARE PS, and running those without it does have much more turning resistance, and is a bit more added weight (regardless, that's what I've done, and it's totally worth it.).

If the CX manual rack is still "too hard" for you, the better solution to putting PS in is to work your arms out a little and stop being a *****.

Don't listen to him. Rodney doesn't need the extra power and DOES need the PS for his scrawny little arms.

Just playin', y0. I bet that does come in handy with those front steamrollers though.
