Rebuiding calipers?
I've never rebuild a caliper before and both my rears are seized (piston rusted out during storage).

What parts do I need of that schematic to fix it? That is the rear assembly for an SRV prelude (Si VTEC for you yanks).
Thanks

Check the cost of a Honda reman. I replaced a rear caliper on my car with a Honda reman'ed unit for less than $100 US. Well worth the cost over having to spend time rebuilding a caliper, IMO.

True. But a new piston is only 30$. I already have it off the car. Why not save myself some cash and rebuild it.
And the price of a honda reman here is 225$.

Is that at the dealer, or will online stores like http://www.slhondaparts.com and http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com not ship to CA?
The fronts are easy to reman, but the rears look a bit more difficult. Have you inspected the piston bores to see if the caliper itself can be salvaged?

No I have not. I guess I should tear it apart first before I order. No it wasn't thru the dealer it was thru a autoparts store that I called for a reman. I'll call the dealer and see.
I can see clear rust on the piston itself mainly on the outside of the seal. The seal is in good shape but probably let in moisture. I shouldn't of stored it in my brothers shop. Too close to standing water.

Majestic Honda does not even list calipers, neither front or rear, on there site. But yet they list everything to rebuild on, and everything else (it's where I got the diagram).
43019-SS0-010 CALIPER SUB-ASSY., L. RR. $201.33 $47.22
06432-SS0-505RM CALIPER SUB-ASSY., R. RR. (RMD) $120.11 $28.17
SL Honda prices.
200$ for 1 caliper. Might aswell rebuild it for half the cost.

Most people tend to forget I'm from Canada. We have outrageous prices vs. the US and shipping them to us is never worth it. Although I live about 1 1/2 hours away from Buffalo. Maybe I'll do a trip to a Buffalo NAPA for 40$ calipers lol.
Hey man, check out http://www.importrp.com they have Rebuilt Calipers for good prices.
he's completely right. prelude parts are super expensive here (I live in ontario canada) and trying to find preludes in wreckers is next to impossible because of thier rarity here. I have a 4ws model and everybody I know says "its extreamly rare" around where I live so its even harder to get wrecker parts for my car.
Its either shipped from the states or its way too expensive, those are our options.
Try buying parts through american sources. They are inexpensive and usually provide a decent service (as far as product and shipping goes)
The shipping prices regardless keep the prices from buying american parts still cheaper overall than buying locally.

when you pop the piston out make sure it does not have any deep gouges in it.
check the cylinder walls in the caliper and check for deep gouges in it as well.
If its just rusted than use a rust cleaner, polish the cylinder/cylinderwalls, apply cylinder grease/lubricant, and reassemble. Make sure all rust is out and the walls/piston are well lubricated.
If the piston and walls are pitted than you need a new assembly.
They sell repair kits too for calipers. Just search for them. They include new seals and lube plus if you have too, you can just buy a new piston like you said.
I've repaired my calipers, and my girlfriends calipers just buy cleaning and lubing.
They run perfect. My calipers are atleast 5 years (in front) (rears i don't know), and my gf's are 3 years atleast and when they started siezing from car sitting, I just tore them apart, and serviced them. F*ck paying 100 even for 1 rebuild caliper, or 225 for oem replacement, thats wetarded.

Strange. The caliper was a little more expensive than I thought, but $120 US for a Honda Reman for a 98 Prelude.

I remember spending less than $100, but my memory isn't what it used to be!
Good luck with the rebuild.

Cheapest I found was 114$ taxes in for 1 caliper...So I'm gonna go ahead and rebuilt it. Anyone know everything I need from that diagram I posted? I will be replacing the pistons as I know both are rusted to **** on the outside and I don't wanna risk it. I'm fixing the car to sell it to a close friend of mine and I don't want her getting into any trouble for my cheaping out. She is paying me well for the car, more then it's worth in my opinion.
the cylinders, and the repair kit is all you'd need. Wire brush on a drill would be nice too, and perhaps a polishing stone
good luck!
remember when putting cylinders back in you have to twist them towards the end to get cylinder completely in the caliper

good luck!

i rebuilt my front and personally i thought those were a piece of cake. But i have heard the rears are hard to do. If i were you id buy just a remain caliper.
The work is not what bothers me and I have extremely tough patience. I'll call honda up for prices tomorrow. Thanks all. Hopefully the caliper itself is not rusted or pitted or I have no choice but to spend the big bucks.
