Default help buying a GSR...

i am looking for a 99-2001 integra GSR. most of them i find have alot of miles on them and are owned by 18 yr. old kids. my question is how long will these motors last.. if i test drive it and everything feels fine and there is no smoke out the exhaust is the motor ok? what are the most important things to look for before i buy the car? another question i have is to get the motor rebuilt.... will that make it a new motor again with 0 miles?? what would that cost if i did the whole thing right. thank you for your help.. i am excited to join the community.

if you want a rebuild to make it basically 0 miles, you would have do what i did and replace EVERYTHING... pistons and rods and all... otherwise as long as everything looks ok inside then just have piston rings and bearings replaced and everything just cleaned... but whats your idea of high milage??? ive seeen many hondas in the high 300,000 miles and they still hadnt had a engine rebuild... my ls was beaten by previous owner and had 130,00 miles and was ran for ever with almost no oil and only thing that was wrong was fried rings and a broken valve... everything else was ok... my civic made it to 180,000 before engine blew but that was cuz i jumped timing at track and it blew up sad day at the track lol as long and you keep up with maintenance and take care of the engine it will last a LONG TIME in a honda... but test drive it and watch for smoke, check for any fluids leaking, make sure coolent looks green and has no oil in it, and make sure v-tec kicks in as long that all ok and no wierd noises you should be ok then

cost me 3000 for pistons, rods, rings, bearings, oil pump, sleeves, bore/hone, micropolish crank, and assemble and balance but that was all high performance parts so if you just go oem id probably say any where between 2-3k to replace everything and do work but if just rings and bearings and headgasket like most people do its prob more of around 1000 maybe a lil more or less depending on how much the shop charges for parts and labor or find the parts cheap like i did with my civic and jus have shop put the parts in for you much cheaper

Checking the spark plugs and doing a compression test on the motor is always a pretty good way to find out how healthy the motor is.

check and see if the plugs are fouled up if not it was taken care of or at least not beaten, look for rust!! rust in the door jams, wheel wells, gas tank door, under the hood..everywhere pretty much.. rust greatly depreciates the value of a car

also test drive it make sure theres a smooth crossover, if not check the oil. make sure u turn both ways and make sure theres no awkward noises
