overheating and odd idle

overheating and odd idle
90 ef sedan with a d15b jdm motor. it started to overheat a few days ago like in the 3/4 to hot range. going down the highway and at a stop light or sign it starts to cool down again. the the idle will lope from 750 to 1500 and it is getting anoying 
. any ideas why this is happending? please help

as far as you idle problem, if its hot when this happens its your IACV, if it happens when cold its the FITV. if you search for either you will find alot of posts on how to fix them.
being low on coolant could cause both symtoms.
